This will sound like an Oddball idea, completely useless in a sense and a total waste of your valuable minecraft days.
What I suggest is an Item, like a lute, which allows you to play music featured in the game. The item has a limited number of uses like any tool which could be equal to maybe 50-75 uses. It's craftable with wood and string arranged in a fashion like so;
= String
Now your probably asking 'Tinned what possible benefit could we have from such a pointless instrument?'
The idea behind this instrument is to force play one of the songs from the minecraft track. If you anything like me I love to listen to the ingame music while I play, but it isn't always playing so I have these long intervales of silence or it is playing a track i'm not a particular fan of.
The Lute item would allow you to right click anywhere while holding it bringing up the playlist selection. From there you can choose which song you would like to listen to and you can do it whenever you like (obviously excluding tracks from the Gold and Green records).
Now I can see some comments saying 'just play the music from your itunes' or similar comments which void the point I am trying to make. The point of this is to keep all of this ingame, so you dont have multiple programs running and constantly have to change between windows, it just gets plain distracting that way it kinda ruins it for me. I'm not sure how you feel but when i'm engrossed in a game the last thing I want to do is to switch out of it to play some music that is ingame and break that boundry between reality and the minecraft world.
I'd be interested to hear some thoughts on the subject. As far as I know it hasn't been suggested before (then again i didn't look terribly hard). Rational and mature comments if you will please :smile.gif:.
Edit: If there are typos, spelling errors, etc it is because It is midnight and I really should be asleep right now instead of sitting up posting on the minecraft forum about silly items that came to me in my tiredness :tongue.gif:.
I don't know, this *could* be neat in the sense of having more roleplay/character/environment. I don't think C418 currently has any lute tracks, though.
Your idea isn't very immersive. It basically takes you out of the game and into a music plug-in. I'd prefer if the lute worked like a noteblock that you carry around with you as an item. It would be very simple, but you could build complexity by carrying several, with each tuned to a different note, or on multiplayer, you could have a bell chorus.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.

Good point, last night I was just so convinced it was a lute :tongue.gif:.

Not 100% sure what you mean by the noteblocks thing but having multiple items build on one another could be interesting :smile.gif:.
