now, i think that there arn't enough reasons to go into dungeons, abandon mineshafts, strongholds, ect. So what if there are items that were really rare and really useful? Here are a few suggestions:
-Crossbow: A ranged weapon that dosn't need to be charged, deals 2 hearts but has a long reloading animation
-Repeating Crossbow: Rapidly fires 8 shots before reloading animation, each doing 1/2 heart of damage
-Trampoline: a block that allows the player to jump high (hight is determined by how high from the trampoline is)
-Collar: A 1-time use item that prevents passive mobs from de-spawning. Collared sheep re-grow their wool, Cows and chickens can be farmed for thier milk and eggs, and who would want to lose their trusted steed?
-Apple Tree Sapling: Grows apple trees (A renewable source for apples)
-Cocoa Tree Sapling: Grows Cocoa Trees (A renewable source for cocoa beans)
-Spider Tamers Staff: Allows the taming of neutral blue and black spiders.
-Ghast Tenticle: A item that allows the firing of a ghast fireball at the cost of 5 hunger points
-Health Potions: Potions that add 5 hearts of health
-Crit. Potions: Potions that Gaurentee critical hits for 1 minute
-Speed Potions: Potions that increase movement speed
These are a few of my ideas. I want your critique. Don't be shy, im open to constructive critisism.
Pretty good stuff for a few mods. The TENTACLE is gameplay-based not a bad idea, but I think it should deplete the hunger bar and do a little direct damage to yourself to be balanced.

Can I point out that the main reason to do anything underground is for the mobs/ores? And the sweet delicious crackmelons.
