So, I just had an awesome idea; in strongholds, there will be a very large room with some sort of magically protected gold blocks (an altar), then you can do a ritual to summon the boss (using what? idk).
Before the boss comes, you have to fight a few waves of monsters, first zombies, then skeletons, then spiders (nix the creepers, that would just be a mess). Once you defeat all the waves, you finish your ritual on the altar, and then something spectacular happens. Stone blocks on the wall with be deleted in the shape of a monster, and a giant stone giant with glowing red eyes will come to pummel the **** out of you.
The stone giant would have AOE stopm/smash attacks, throw stones (grey snowballs) at you, and could set a 5-block long row of blocks on fire to try and catch you on fire.
When the boss is killed, you are given a new ore (Molten Ore, or something else so it doesnt sound so Terraria-y) so that you can craft the most epic items that will never break (reduced gathering/damaging speed to offset the unbreakable effect). The reason for unbreakable items would be; there are only 3 strongholds, you can only gather the ore from the boss stone giant.
Thoughts? (preferably only ones on how this idea can be improved, not "i don't want bosses")
Great Idea but that might be hard to code(but not impossible) but items that never break would be too op on smp and that would be extremelys hard to find without mods if its underground.

<--- click it or he might die! don't let my baby die
There should be a boss for each type.
Skeleton King
Fire's arrows rapid fire. 2.5x bigger then normal skeletons and double the health
Giant
Already in the game
Spider Queen
The mom of all the other spiders. Spawns blue and normal spiders and tries to run away
10 super charged creepers
The kill squad
Endermon
DON'T LOOK. You looked? You're dead. You can only kill it by making other endermen (they spawn while it's alive) look at it

Well notch has said that both Minecraft and Terraria inspire each other. Terraria was introduced to bring all the things that have yet to be made in Minecraft to light. This includes bosses, strongholds, npc's, a minor "story" etc. The creator of Terraria has even said that he made it because he thought that Minecraft's progress was too slow, even though he knew it was all in production.
This being said, an exchange of similar content is expected.
Well, with that mod you get a boss that can be summoned anywhere, anytime. I would rather a true boss, that dropped unique items that cant be found/crafted anywhere else.
I think you can say the player is asked to "sacrifice" a block at the altar. Depending on the block sacrificed, a different variety of mobs will spawn... and player(s) can get different rewards.
For instance, sacrificing a dirt will give fewer spawns and fewer rewards; whereas sacrificing a diamond block (or obsidian, lol) will spawn tons of monsters and better rewards.

Curse PremiumYeah, i know that. I'm just suggesting he add a little "spice" to the bosses, since there will only be 3 strongholds per world.
