I wanted to mention my idea for making MC world spherical like planets. The basic idea is all the sides of blocks are flat planes that would extend down to a center point (core) rather then just pointing downwards. The top and bottom surfaces of blocks could be curved to follow the planet surface.
I drew a diagram to better explain it. Maybe it's just too complicated to even try but just wanted to give my 2 cents cuz spherical worlds would be amazing..
Sorry I could not respond cuz the forum was taking 5+ min to refresh and I couldn't get the image to link..
Anyways, you technically wouldn't notice anything different, it would seem the world is still flat because of the size of it. But whatever it's still prob too far off to implement anything like this.
I guess even if they could make it work, the blocks would grow too large as you get higher, there would have to be some accounting for that too. :/ But again on a planet the size of Earth, you prob wouldn't notice curvature until you were miles up.
I like it, but worlds should be at least 500 by 500 by 500 if they become spherical (I have already worked out how to make the functionality of a sphere, never came close to good graphics).

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
you are forgetting about our good friend the portal, if you reach the edge of a flat map and teleport to the opposite side it will seem spherical as you will end up in the same place if you travel in a straight line and all will be square :smile.gif:. but in the sense that you can see seamlessly through it like in portal.
I don't know how possible it would be to do though but is an idea.
Yeah, while you may not still have true sphere shaped worlds, using portals to simply wrap the edges around to meet makes total sense as a simpler solution that only involves changing around the edges of maps. The terrain generator could be modified to account for seamless map edges, and you wouldn't have to worry about block distortion either.
There's another problem with the sphere, as you move towards the poles, the north south lines also begin to distort, so arctic regions would have to be off limits too due to sliver sized blockes. :/ Still tho, I doubt a person would know they're not still playing vanilla MC until u fly them into space and look down. XD
I know the whole idea is pretty out there yet I'm sure I'm not the first to tackle the concept.
This would mean no flat land, so it would be annoying to build on.
Hey you gave a reason. You wouldn't really see a difference cuz on a planet the size of Earth. So why even bother? Interplanetary travel my friend.
I'm not talking about Spore planets, they were so tiny. Thats why I say this is all theory tho - it's just to get thinking about the world being round instead of flat all over again is good brainfood.

And why the link in a spoiler?
There's no sense to find in it.
If you look for it, you won't find it.
