I came up with an idea while watching some spiders frolic earlier, and after searching, decided to make it a suggestion.
The Snail or Giant snail mob would be fairly large. 2 blocks long, about 1.75 wide, and 1.75 high. It's model, which I have done a quick rough draft of one Google Sketchup, consists of a big rectangle on top of a thin, slightly large one (like the foot of the snail), a rectangular, small neck, and a wide head with little eye stalks. Their shells should probably be somewhat tanish orange, with purple trims. It sounds terrible, I know, but it looks better than it sounds.
Snails move about 1/3 as fast as the regular walking speed. They have 10 hearts, but if you approach them with a weapon in your hand, it will move away unless cornered, when it's head pulls in in a quick animation, so that only the 'invincible' shell remains. Invincible, however, only to a sword. You can mine the shell away to kill the mob, which takes 12 seconds; nearly the time of obsidian. Killing them this way drops only the "shell" item, which is furtherly described later.
If you were to approach them without a sword in your hand, they remain passive and go about their merry way like any normal mob. If you surprise them and pull out a sword, or if they are hit from a distance, they will become agressive, by turning towards you and spitting purple slimeballs out you like a thrown snowball. When they hit you, they either poison you or knock you back.
Killing the mob normally will give you these slimeballs, called "Poison Slime". They can be thrown at a mob like a snowball, which deals them 3 hearts of damage. They are not used in crafting at this point in time of the suggestion.
The shell can be broken down into 4 pieces of "shell block" which are decorative.
Anyways, i'm pretty sure that covers it. Tell me what you think!

Thanks for reading this!
Note: If you take the time to comment, please vote as to whether or not you feel that poison slime should be throwable by the player. Thanks!
Oh god I just had Maplestory nostalgia(not that the snails in that game relate to this in any way).
I'd like this, though. Minecraft could always use more unique mobs. I'm kind of skeptical over the player being able to use slime balls though, seems a bit odd.

I was a little bit wary of adding the slimeballs, but I figured that it would be okay. My reasoning? It would be alright without them, but every mob in minecraft is unique. I personally really like mobs like Pigmen or Wolves that are passive unless attacked, so I gave the snails a bit of offense :smile.gif:
EDIT: Oh! The player using the slimeballs.
Hm. It could do without that, easily. I'll set up a sort of minipoll on the original post.
I'm not trying to 'bump' or anything like that.
I'm just kind of shocked. It sort of seems like all the really bad (agreeably, not opinions. Like 'omg noch shud ad bred' and stuff, not just MY opinions) suggestions are up front, even if they're old.
This isn't supposed to sound like some sort of flame thread. I just wish that people would comment on this topic, if they like it, dislike it, or have any sort of opinion on the matter.
Calamari is squid/octopus...you mean escargot :tongue.gif:
But not bad of an idea.
EDIT:
Oh well, guess that this thread ended up dying...that kind of seems like a shame to me. I thought it was at least decent.
:S

If only I could aim.
