I think the option to roll would be neat alongside the new sprinting update. Something like this:
-You roll about 2-3 blocks every roll.
-You could roll and if you time it right, jump twice as high.
-Roll farther (3-4?) if you sprint first.
-During the moment you roll, any damage taken is halved (Since you are in a protective, impact-absorbing position)
-If you roll into a block, you take a small amount of damage and/or be unable to move for a short time.
-Half damage taken from falling if you time a roll right.
I think this could be useful and just plain cool.
Frankly I don't believe that this is the type of game where rolling would ... fit. If you want to mod for it then props, but it doesn't give me a Vanilla Minecraft feel.
That is just my opinion and does not mean that you should not pursue this idea.
I would rather have a crawling option first. Then I will worry about rolling.
