So with 1.8 soon to be released, the oceans are vastly bigger and deeper. I have come up with three rather good ideas, (At least in my opinion. Be yours what it may, I believe in the freedom of speech.) That i would rather like to have in the game. If these seem too different to be included in one topic let me know, as i do not wish for these to be deleted. If these ideas also seem to be a verbalization of other posts, a link would be appreciated and the idea will be given credit to the proper person. On to the list!
1) With more space comes.... Glaciers!
I had always been fond of the idea, I'm not talking about icebergs that took down the Titanic (though those would be great as well), I'm talking the ones that melted down to form the Great Lakes! The great fields that float on the water. Great beasts could be found on them, such as Wolly Mammoths and Yetis. An oh so unoriginal ice pick could be made, and could be used to harvest ice. Caves of ice could be abundant, especially considering that the majority of the tiny icebergs are underwater, an astonishing 67% or so I believe. There may need to be an alternate source of light in order to not melt the whole area, since torches tend to do so. Maybe a permafrost block may be developed.
2) Submerged Caves
I have heard all this talk of SCUBA suits in minecraft. Mods have been developed, and as great as these are, The aren't going to be in the game. At least I would not believe so. There could be caves that have air pockets and tiny places to stand, maybe have some rare minerals (Though I think Notch is not going to add more minerals.). There could be sharks or eels, barracuda or lion-fish, the biome of the ocean is the most diverse, so why not show its colors? Have the deep cave dwelling fish, and make things interesting! Underwater dungeons? Why not! Harpoons would be rather interesting as well.
3) Big Game
Ever watch River Monsters? Great show. It's about this British dude who catches huge monster sized fish. So hey, if the Aether Mod makes bosses an epic win, why can't notch do 10x better? (No offence to those who developed the Aether Mod, it was quite ingenious and I'm sure many hours had been spent, if not days or weeks. I'm just pointing out this is Notches career.) So what are some possible under water Boss Mobs? Well, of course there's the legendary Kraken. Mermen and Mermaids could live in randomly generated Mini-Atlantises(Atlantisi/Atlanti?) and act as a spider during the day, only aggressive when provoked. A Blue Whale would be a giant mob, or why not have Poseidon himself? Ideas on this would be great.
Again if you feel that this is too much for one topic, feel free to say. I just don't want people repeating that and ignoring my actual post. Any modifications to it will be thought over and possibly accepted, so feel free to express your opinions.
I think an assortment of all these ideas should be put into the game, however I don't think Minecraft should cater to mods such as scuba suits as you mentioned.
I would like to see glaciers in snow biomes only, if there were to be combined with ocean biomes.
I believe the big game should be incorperated as well. Big fish (and small fish, read below for details on this), bigger squid, and maybe even some sort of cuthulu sea monster. As for the submerged caves, they should be huge.
I also think there should be smaller fish mobs of different colour that would inhabit the smaller water areas of minecraft for every biome that includes water. This could make it easier to fish in minecraft, with actually being able to see what you're catching. Maybe mushroom fish could be found in the mushroom biome? :tongue.gif:)
As for your mini atlantis idea, I think there should be some sort of underwater villages, and make the squidward looking people live down there instead, and have regular human characters live in the villages on the surface.
I voted for number three because it had what I would like to see: more aquatic mobs. Hostile, neutral, tamable (dolphins)--I don't care, just more aquatic mobs than just squids.
Months... - for Notch! I bet any other modder could do #1 within a week, even though they'd have to work their way through obfuscation. Notch has the full source code and his job is to code, yet he's outmatched by 16 yos sitting in the basement coding for fun...
They're working off of Notch's codes (I'm mostly sure on this).
FYI, Notch codes his game from scratch.
You seriously fail to realize how hard the coding actually is.

But that would take months to put in all that coding.

Great ideas btw.

I do think that oceans could use more life.
