Put simply, I have 3 ideas for ender pearls that I will be attempting to push into the 2x2/rangecraft/expanded inventory mod that Yofreke and I are working on;
1) Ender Gloves (Expanded Inventory, used from EI's Arm slot to use) - Right clicking on a block while barehanded will allow you to pick up and move blocks without breaking them, just like the endermen can do. Sprinting will not be possible while holding a block, portals and teleportation will also not work.
2) Ender Ammo (Rangecraft, used with right click or from RC's Ammo slot) - While holding a pearl, right clicking with it will throw it like an egg (but significantly reduced range) and the player will be teleported to wherever it lands. If the pearl is placed in the ammo slot, it can be thrown using the sling for a slightly greater range.
If the pearl is crafted in place of flint in an arrow recipe, then it will create a single arrow. This single arrow has the longest range, and also will not immediately break on using. Instead, the Ender Arrow switches places with the player to teleport them. If the Ender arrow hits a mob or another player, the player firing the Ender arrow will have their position switched with the target they hit.
3) Ender Chests (Standalone) - Build a chest shape out of Ender Pearls, the resulting chest will share its inventory with all other Ender chests on the map. The player will only have access to items in the ender chest that they placed in it themselves. Ender Chests have the inventory of a normal chest, but one player placing items in an ender chest will not affect the inventory available to other players.
Endermen cannot survive in sunlight, so any "ender" items will not work, and will generally break when used while exposed to sunlight.
First off, I think the drop rate on ender pearls may need to get tweaked. If 1 ender pearl being used to activate a short range teleport is overpowered, then the drop rate should be corrected. However, for simplicity's sake I think that 1 ender pearl should be enough to activate basic effects.
For short range teleportation I suggest an 'Ender-arrow', that you can shoot out of a bow. However, right now there's not a good way to control what arrows are used by a bow which may be a minor problem. A simple possible solution to this would be to shoot by using arrows rather then using bows, but that requires a minor change to the game's functions.
How about Craftable "Ender" Blocks, that, when Powered by Redstone, would make a little Ender Pearl coloured Portal on top, about as high as the player (Would adjust like Glass panes and Iron Bars) Which would teleport a player to Coordinates, Which could be Customized by Right clicking the Placed Ender block itself. As a Thought on Fuel to not Overpower the block, it could run using Redstone (Perhaps like how Furnaces work, with each redstone dust having the smelting Time of Coal, though instead it would keep the Portal open, when it runs out of Fuel the Portal would shut. However, the portal would not Activate unless powered by Redstone, so you'd need to first Power it with redstone to make it even work) or something, in a little slot in the GUI that would pop up when you use it.
This seems like a good idea, as you'd have to count the blocks to the area you want to teleport to, or You might teleport yourself into a Wall or something. Perhaps this would add some sort of Ender Compass made with Iron and Redstone that could be used to get Coordinates on the block you are standing on.
Another little Idea is that powered Ender blocks would power nearby Ender block as well, perhaps even sharing a fuel source, allowing you to make Larger Portals.
However I don't think The Ender block should be able to Teleport you to other Dimensions, such as the Nether, it should only teleport you to places in the same Dimension you are in.
I like the idea of using ender pearl to go to the sky dimension. Maybe, you create a portal out of glowstone and activate it with the ender pearl.
Other than that I think it should be a one-time use to teleport you to the top of the block you are looking at, or if in a cave, teleport you to the surface.
This is my Idea for Endermen and the pearls. I just read that in 1.9 enderman are not carrying blocks anymore. BOO! why would you do that? it's not like they will deconstruct your palace overnight. Maybe just tone it down a little. Maybe they cant't move any stone, just dirt, sand, gravel, clay, and Wood (not wood planks). I like that they move blocks randomly in 1.8. Adds some character to the mob instead of just aimless wandering. Gives them a reason to be there. I like a lot of the ideas for teleporting with the pearls. My idea is this.
5 Enderpearls + 4 Lapis Laz = 1 Enderstone block (same pattern as making Dynamite)
12-?? Enderstone Blocks could be laid out in an archway to make the "Embergate".
When Redstone power is applied to BOTH sides of the "Endergate" it teleports you to an identical gate you have made anywhere else in the world, even UNDERGROUND. This way everyone can have teleportation that isn't over powered as the locations would be fixed and it would take 60 pearls to make each gate. You could set up gates between villages or from your main dig site to your secret volcano base. The possibilities would be endless. That our use them as arrow tips to make Homing Arrows.

I've seen waaayyyyyy too many teleporting suggestions here.
Maybe, ender pearls could slow down time. You right click with an ender pearl and everything(Except the player) moves slower, and uses a pearl every 2 seconds.
Just an idea though.
I really really like this idea it is much better than the teleport ideas =)
An adaptation on the teleport idea
I you make a portal but instead of flint and steel use an endepearl, the gate starts to charge, add more endepearls to make in charge a bit more. After You've used like 20 enderpearls it erupts into an endergate, They are useless on their own but will Teleport you to another one. There could be some mechanic by which it decides where to go in the very unlikely event of you having more than one (once an endergate is open, tike a nethergate it wtays there inless you remove one of the blocks.
I love this idea, but since right now ender pearls are so easy to get, mabey there is a cost for running it? Like if you create an endergate you activate it with an enderpearl, but to use it you have to power it (furnace?) and you go to a random endergate somewhere in the world. sort of like paying for a ticket.

This is BRILLIANT!!! i love that idea, however, how would you implement this in multiplayer?
You know what I think? They should be used as a form of storage for something that's in the game but isn't physical.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about experience.
For example, if you right click an ender pearl it would take a level out of your character to create a charged ender pearl which looks slightly brighter. If you right click the charged ender pearl then you could get the level back. If you don't have enough exp to charge the ender pearl then nothing will happen. IMO this would be of great use in amp mainly to reduce the lag. This could also be used in single player so that exp could be stored in chests so that if the player dies far from his spawn point or bed and can't reach it in time, he wouldn't have to start over.
I think it would be cool to make an "teleportation" version of TNT, which could be activated just like TNT when placed.
When powered, perhaps it could teleport all blocks/ items near a small radius of it, to a random spot within a larger radius around it.
Perhaps the power level could be changed by adding more enderpearls, in crafting.
This could be useful for "scattering" blocks, could even be an interesting technique for mining. You could place a few of these
ender-TNT blocks in holes in rock, blow them up, and they would create holes. But instead of exploding the existing blocks,
it could teleport them to a random spot within 10-25 block radius.
Perhaps you could craft a "block only" and "mob/ player only" teleporting block. Perhaps blocks would have a 30% chance of
teleporting items/ mobs to the nether in the "nether coordinates" or random spot in nether. Otherwise, 70% chance of teleporting somewhere nearby.
They should make a level like the Nether but with endermen and other mobs like the endermen and by getting there you craft ender blocks and start the portal with an ender pearl
Yeah, I really don't need to see another teleport idea >_<. But I really like the dreamworld suggestion; although that seems pretty far out, it would make a great mod! :biggrin.gif:
Notch said a while ago that in 1.8 he would release a Dream World type place, but since 1.8 is getting split into 1.8 and 1.9, I think he's going to ad it in 1.9, just a thought. COOKIEZ!!!
hey guys how about this: the enderpearl could be utalized in some way to repair damaged tools, but not entierly so to balance the power. just a thought. sorry i cant spell
Teleportation is just stupid. I think you should have to get 4 ender pearls to get an ender block, and make an ender portal like the nether, but have ender stuff in it, like more ender blocks, and maybe a neat block that's like blue and black or something. There could be like different kinds of endermen, like slimes, the bigger the tougher, but in this case, the color of the smoke, like that one guy said (too lazy to look up his name lol.)
Or maybe you can activate an ender pearl, and for 24 hours (game time) endermen don't attack when you look at them.
My "other" vote, shamelessly copypasted from the thread I made about it a few hours ago:
If you've already been to the Nether and have a Blaze rod, at a crafting bench you can add the pearl on top of the rod like you would do for a torch, and that creates an "ender torch" (name is lame, I know). If you place this in your fort and then go wandering with another pearl and get into trouble, you can smash the pearl and teleport back to the ender torch. Doing so should destroy the torch, so if you want to do it again you must craft another one.
This idea does derive from the magic mirror in Terraria, which teleports you back to your bed. The idea behind destroying the torch and the pearl in order to use it is because in Terraria the mirror removes some of the challenge, because there's nothing to stop you spamming it when you get into trouble. If you need to smash the pearl on cobble or stone, and need to craft a torch out of a potentially difficult to obtain drop like the Blaze Rod (I haven't actually found one yet), then it should make you think twice about using it unless the situation is truly dire.
Also, it could be cool if smashing the pearl also transported mobs within 5^3 blocks of you. Since it takes a small while to smash the pearl, imagine you're fleeing from a creeper, desperately searching for a stone block to activate the pearl while you're on half a heart. You manage to find a single block, start smashing, then it breaks and you're back in your bedroom with all your chests and your bed. Then... ssssssssssss
I like the idea of building blocks out of them and making a portal to the sky dimension.
It makes me think of the endermen as "fallen angels" or something. They were banished from the sky dimension and are now cursed to roam the earth, moving blocks around for some unknown higher purpose never to be completed... So dark -- gives me chills. And maybe the sky dimension could be abandoned or forgotten, and have empty villages like 1.8, but more like ruins, and with no mobs.
So the Ender Pearls are their last connections to their home. That's why the Ender Pearl Blocks (or whatever) could be built into a portal to teleport you there.
Though I guess them dying in water would be kinda weird since the sky dimension is sorta opposite to the nether... But they would be *fallen* angels which might explain that.
Sorry for the backstory... Just sounded so cool I had to share it :tongue.gif:
I think they should have a number of uses. Here are some:
Ender Arrow: crafted like an arrow, using an Ender Pearl in place of a flint. When shot, teleports you to the landing. When shot at a mob, it should do 8 damage
Ender Sword: Like gold swords, it will only have a number of hits (30 or so), but should deal 8 damage, useful for battling boss mobs
Ender Orb: 3x3 of Ender Pearls. When you click on a nether portal, it changes it to a Sky Dimension portal. Also, when used (10 uses), teleports you to the nearest:
Ender Block: 2x2 of ender orbs (requiring a total of 36 ender pearls to make). Can be placed anywhere, and when an Ender Orb is used, it would teleport you to the nearest one. When broken, yields 2 ender orbs (costing you half of the ones used to make it.)
1) Ender Gloves (Expanded Inventory, used from EI's Arm slot to use) - Right clicking on a block while barehanded will allow you to pick up and move blocks without breaking them, just like the endermen can do.
