Or maybe..... The enderpearls will have to be crafted into blocks, that teleport you, to a sky dimension, (but only while sleeping), then you have to kill 183 enderman in 30 minutes (Minecraft time, of course), but you must kill these enderman with the key bindings set to forward-x, backward-9, left-t, right-f5, and attack-tab. Once you have completed this task a screen will appear stating "You have become the king of enderman, thus making you an enderman, congratulations." Now that you are an enderman you must complete the process to return to a human. :smile.gif:

Q) What's green and has wheels? A) Grass. I lied about the wheels.
I think a good way to look at items in minecraft is a function of logic. All crafting uses the logical properties of an item in all its uses. Metal acts like metal, arrows act like arrows, redstone is consistantly equivalent to "electricity" etc. If I remember correctly this is a clearly stated design goal so that the game remains accessible. Nether pearls should work logically based upon either their shape or what they came from.
If ender pearls are made of endermen stuff, and endermen are made of/inherit from the forces that create nether portals, then it follows that any use of them would more likely than not involve:
A - Teleportation/Portals of some type
The only teleport idea I like is the thrown ender pearl one. Imagine they worked like snowballs/eggs and zipped you over to wherever they smashed. Alternately, wouldn't it be fun if it teleported what it hits to somewhere else? Like an equivalent position in the nether, or hell how about just a random position within 20 blocks?
B - The fact that they're round and presumably rather solid (unlike all other round things in the game)
What if their perfect hard spherical shape made them perfect as ammunition for dispenser based weapons? Currently, dispensers fire arrows. Arrows aren't super damaging, so it can be a pain to stock up enough to make your dispenser useful. Imagine that a combination of the weird portal-magic stuff that makes them, and their spherical shape they function as the IDEAL dispenser ammo, dealing a significant amount of damage Suddenly you've got a dispenser trap that can reliably kill creepers in a hit or two.
C - Awareness (endermen have some pretty unique behavors in this regard)
When you look at an enderman, he flips the crap out. While most hostiles have an "alarm" when they see you, they don't SELL it quite as well as the enderman. What if you could use some redstone, ender pearls, and gold to create an alarm device? This is essentially a redstone switch that activates when it "sees" a hostile and deactivates when the hostile is gone. The catch? its made out of endermen, and thus they are invisible to it. Hook them up to note blocks for proximity alarms, pistons for really effective lava/water traps, doors to create a creeper-proof airlock, you get the idea.
D - Moving Blocks Around
Currently, only two things in the world can both pick up place blocks. You, and endermen. Pistons are pretty good at moving blocks, and sticky pistons are even better. However what if there was a way to do these things more efficently by combining the natural... uh... we'll call it magic of the endermen with the pluck and ingenuity of your average spelunker? I've got two words for you: Portable Hole. Take some ender pearls, some gunpowder, ink, and glass and you've got a fun little device that places like a torch, however in stead of casting light, it casts square portal blocks in a 3x3x2 area behind itself. This means if its placed on walls, the hole will emanate in to the wall behind the device, if placed on floors, in to the floor, or above the device on the ceiling. This doesn't destroy the blocks, it just temporarily replaces them with a "hole" block. These blocks are similar to portal blocks in that they emit noise, particles, and faint light, and will make your vision all screwy when moving through them. Because of its fragile nature this device can not be retrieved once deployed, and if struck with any force, like a torch will pop off, returning the affected blocks to their original states and breaking the device. These could have uses in mining, traps (if used with pistons/water/etc.) or failsafe hallways designed to close up. There's no faster or easier way to create a temporary mob trap. Ever play Lode Runner? Now image that, only in minecraft and with that creeper that was going to sneak up on you.
i think that there should be an ender block with a craftable ender button so when you right click the ender button while your holding it you'd teleport back to the ender block!
How about used to craft Teleporter Platforms. Either set so that when you right click on them, you set a "frequency" so that teleporter pad A will connect to B and C will connect to D and vice versa. You could set up a group of pads at your spawn point and 1 in multiple areas far away. you label the pad at the spawn point to the area you want to go to, step on it and you go to the opposing pad you set up far away, and can also use that pad to return. Mods in multiplayer allow for this same thing in concept, but would be nice for a feature such as this to be included.
Hey guys, lots of good ideas here. I have an idea.
What do u guys think of making Enderpearls a thrown weapon? Like say it explodes after a few seconds but doesn't destroy any blocks. This would leave the use for TNT intact.
My other idea.
I was thinking that we do have anything for helping you breath underwater. Perhaps combined with gold or iron could make a breathing mask that lasts for a short time. Enough time to explore those ocean bio-domes a little more.
Otherwise I am on board for a one time use teleport in any direction.
I really really like the idea of ender pearls igniting the nether portals. Even though they don't have anything to do with the nether supposedly, it seems like a better method than flint and steel, imo.
I like the idea of using ender pearls to teleport somehow. Suppose it functioned like an escape rope?
You craft together 8 ender pearls and 1 string like so:
E-E-E
E-S-E
E-E-E
And create an "ender charm", effectively a 8 ender pearls strung together as a bracelet.
The charm is a one-time-use item that, when equipped and right clicked, will instantly teleport the player to the surface. The place you teleport to will be the first space directly upward which is both capable of fitting the player and is exposed to direct sun/moon light. The teleport is accompanied by a brief flurry of nether-portal-y purple particles.
Think about how many times you go spelunking, dig up tons of ores and valuables, and get completely lost. Or worse, you're lost and low on health. Having an item like this with you could mean the difference between life and death. Although you might just teleport up into the night only to be killed by night-time mobs, so it's recommended to bring a gold watch with you as well as your nether charm.
Maybe right click on a block that's no more than 20 blocks away from you to be teleported there. I don't think that would be too overpowered, since it's not THAT far.
Make ender tools that destroy a block instantly (because they are ender tools :sleep.gif:) but the ender sword kills mobs with 1 hit and it will appear the X2 orbs. Too can have ender armor that never gets destroyed and its better than diamond.
For once i didn't have the pateince to read the whole thread so missed this, but surely all these idea's you are throwing out are getting much too complicated? Why not just stick to the basics and say 8 enderpearls = one teleport.
Remember that notch may be making mob traps redundant later on.
Notch won't give us a teleport power, I'll bet money on it. (unless its really weak like teleporting to spawn).
He will not make teleport pads, he will not make enderpearl blocks. They have massive flaws and I am sure Notch would notice that instantly.
And he's not going to let you have a pet endermen.
We are NOT going to see endertools (we might see enderpearl tool modifications though!)
Sigh.
You guys, stop suggesting things that its OBVIOUS notch wont do!
this is all awsome useing ender pearls to tele the ender pearls would then be why they tele
but i was thinking 1 block(9 pearls)and put 4 blocks together to make an ender charm
and use 3 to make an ender necklace unbreakable chest armor placement gives no extra def thogh
and when on right click to jump up to 10 blocks each use around 100 use not op becuase of how many pearls you need
how to make(dimonds will be shown for ender charm)(and arrow for string)(and mushroom for redstone)
Ok, i have another idea other than making enderpearls make powered minecrats go faster. How about if you put a redstone torch with a enderpearl on top of it on the crafting bench it created a ender torch that makes a black laser or wave or whatever that acts as a vertical redtone current through the air. It would go straight up and like regular redstone it the power only goes 15 blocks. I think it would make sense because the endermen teleport through air.
Here are the ideas I've read in this thread so far that I think Notch would actually consider (it would be cool to have all of them).
1. throwing ender pearls with left click.
- when it hits a target, should teleport them away from you 10 - 30 (or some other amount) blocks (maybe in a randomized direction).
- when it does not hit a target and sits on the ground for 2 seconds, teleports you randomly within 20 blocks of where it landed.
2. teleport to spawn with right click.
- hold for 5 seconds to use
- leaves all your items behind except: equipped armor, and items in the quick slots
- destroys the ender pearl
3. make gold equipment indestructible.
- 4 of these around a gold item to make it indestructible.
4. ender torches
- they do not produce light, but they keep endermen away
- alternatively, they can be used be inverted torches that actually make darkness (could be powered by redstone to turn on and off).
- it could do both, make darkness when powered, and repel endermen at all times
5. opens nether portals
- instead of flint and steel
I would be okay with seeing any or even ALL of these in the game, since not a single one is overpowered, and all of them are hard to control and have drawbacks, or are just tiny uses that dont change the game much. Remember, notch prefers SIMPLE game mechanics that do NOT change other game mechanics and only add new things that are not very powerful. Discuss.

I want an Ender-Staff! A staff that allows you to control an Enderman, and have him build certain schematics for you, each staff will lose durability over time as the enderman builds, and enderman may take materials from your chests to finish construction! That way we can put those griefers to work >:smile.gif:
I have an idea: you could do an necklace with the enderpearl with some strings (and maybe others materials) and the necklace would be weared as an armor and would have a special effect vs endermens or something like when you have it on even if you look at them they wont attack you + something else because a pumpkin do this job too
So how about this, you craft 4 ender pearls together to make a teleporter shard. This shard can then be crafted with 3 other shards to make a teleporter item. This will allow you to right click anywhere within a 16 block radius to teleport there. There would be repercussions of course. You will lose health and/or temporarily be hurt by water. Also you would only have a certain number of uses, lets say 36 for now.
I'm lazy and/or can't read: 4 shards (or 16 pearls) would be required to make a teleporter that lasts for 36 uses, where you may be damaged for teleporting anywhere within a 16 radius.

IF and only if
1. ender pearl breaks in one use
2. takes you back to your spawn point every time
or
2. teleports you to where your mouse is rested on
