The tool, weapon, or armor....along with an enderpearl
All this will do is increase the defensive capabilities of armor slightly, and the attack power of swords and tools slightly
Maybe the armor will protect from +1 heart and the damage from weapons and tools to +1/2
Edit: This dimension could also tell us a little more about these mysterious mobs, perhaps we could find out more about there history... Kind of a shadow realm to the past? :3
Why does this scream "mysterious, alien planet" for me? (Probably due to Misa's alien-look on them in the realistic pack...)
I say, use the pearls to make a teleporter that you walk in and it teleports you to another one.
1: Use different materials to make teleport "channels", so you can choose where each teleporter goes, and have the material be used by hitting "E" on the teleporter. Teleporters without channels would teleport you to the closest teleporter, regardless of the channel of the receiver.
2: Use Enderblocks, as others have said as to how to make, as the blocks for the teleporter with the recipe using 14 Enderblocks, 7 in a pants pattern, 7 in an up-side-down pants pattern, making a top and bottom teleporter block, and use those above and below a chest, which will act as the storage chamber for the "channel" material.
3: The teleporters will need fuel to work, such as coal or charcoal, also put in the chamber for materials.
4: You can only use one to travel between worlds if the channel material is one that is specific to that world.
5: Teleporters have infinite range, due to the rarity of the materials.

Awesome Idea, Along With Your Thoughts I Thought Maybe We Could Set Down "Ender Blocks" And The Teleporter Teleports Us To Wherever We Set The Blocks. Maybe A Maximum Or 5 Ender Block Locations. And If We Put Down A Sixth Block It Disconnects The First, Then Seventh Disconnects Second Etc.
stop over-thinking it. this is minecraft. nothing is complex.
one ender-pearl teleports you to spawn once, than is gone.
that would be cool, wouldnt be overpowered, assuming the enderman becomes rarer and more powerful, and the drop becomes rarer. which i am assuming is in the plan, because these endeman are weak-ass.
What about collecting some 64 Enderpearls, combining all 64 to make a pearl of beginnings (or some such name), and allowing that pearl to save you from death once? You would be sent back to your spawn point like a normal death, but you keep all your items and experience gotten. Or perhaps you would lose all of your items but keep your experience? I enjoy the thought.
Maybe by placing an Ender Pearl on a Stick, it will make an Ender Torch, which gives off a dark purple glow, for aesthetics.
As for teleportation, I think Ender "Blocks" seem unoriginal. What about an Ender Port? It will be crafted like so:
Flint: Ender Pearl
By placing different blocks in the middle, it changes the Ports to a different frequency. Standing on the Ender Port will teleport you to a differing Ender Port with the same frequency. If you attempt to place a third Ender Port of the same frequency, the game will track how many Ports are there in the world, and if there's more than two, you can not place it, and will have to destroy one of the Ender Ports first.
I would imagine that the pearl would have to do with the mob itself. The pearl may be a defense mechanism fro the player such as using one on an enderman takes away its teleport ability to make escaping easier or possible. Maybe it even can be used to make anti enderman weapons or blocks that repel enderman but like 9 would make a block and they cant teleport past the block or near the block.
I am all for Ender Pearls being used for teleportation.
For those who build 'bases' of 'homes', this could be of great use.
here is what I envision. Keepign in mind that I have found Endermen to be quit easy to dispatch;
8 Ender Pearls(E) and 1 Redstone (R):
E E E
E R E
E E E
This will yield a block of (I dunno... 'Ender Stone' yeah...very original)
This could then be placed somewhere creating a 'beacon'.
The second component would be a ring,
1 Ender Pearl and 1 Iron Ingot
x E x
x I x
Make the ring your active 'instrument/tool' and right click and away you go. To balance the possibility of making this thing over powered, the ring will be destroyed or you'll have to collect Ender Pearls that will be consumed on each use.
Out of playing 1.8 (I will be playing it more soon) I have killed at least 8 Endermen in 5-6 hours) and I only remember receiving 1 Pearl.
As I play more I'll probably amend this, but I really agree with the whole teleportation idea.
The problem that I see so far with the Pearl being used as a defense against Endermen, there are too many of them. If there were fewer and they were stronger, I can see the pearl temporarily confusing them, as if the Enderman's essence is part of the Pearl and their feral, bloodthirsty minds were not intelligent enough...As they stand now, they are largely incomplete and their purpose is not very clearly mapped out.
Edit: i can see a potential 'issue' with those who are suggesting we can use the Pearl for 'line of site' teleportation. I have an issue with this since the player is assumed to be human and not an Enderman. If he/she were an Enderman, then Enermen would have no issue with you gazing at them. being able to use this kind of suggested ability would mean you have intimate knowledge of how the Endermen use their abilities. We don't.
I can however, see this as a viable option if there were some kind of measurable skill or use of the item in question that could lead to you learning and understanding it's power, then being able to craft something that would allow you to use it more for this purpose. Until then, no skill or measurable experience; no super-power ;-)
I think it should be like an egg that hatches a chicken, only it hatches a baby endermen. It would be like a wolf but tamed once you spawn it, It would grow after time and have 2 stages of life: Baby, 2 blocks high It would deal 1 heart of damage and have 10 hearts. Adult, 4 blocks high It would deal 2.5 hearts of damage and have 25 hearts (Note that endermen can't be healed)
Honestly, the main thing Enderman do is teleport, so the Ender Pearl HAS to be used for teleportation.. It would just be plain SILLY to not use them for that! Using one measly Ender Pearl to teleport would be flat out stupid, adventurers weigh too much (Enderman are only 1% matter you know, the rest is dark-matter...)! It'll take many more Ender Pearls to teleport somewhere!
Now here's the rest of my idea now that I have you intrigued! Ender Pearls should be used for FUEL for a teleporter, think of Ender Pearls as the essence of Enderman, it is their soul per-say! Since Enderman are only 1% matter, and the rest is dark matter and vice-versa for Adventurers, it should take a lot of Ender Pearls to transport somewhere! The rest is going to be in Bullet form to save space and explain easier.
100 Ender Pearls need to be heated in a furnace to produce one barrel of Ender Oil! (Coal will not produce enough heat to melt the Pearls, Diamond Dust is required for that)
Because a barrel of Ender Oil is so expensive, and will take a while to make, it is good for 10-25 teleports/transports
Enderman don't always end up in front of you when they teleport... Sometimes they misfire (I'm sure you can guess what that means, if not; it means your teleporter has a 15% chance of malfunctioning and teleporting you to A.The Nether, B.The Sky Dimension, C.A random co-ordinate in the regular realm
That's right, I said "your teleporter", Teleporter's would be a new multi-stage recipe that is fairly expensive to create and/or operate! (Ender Oil is only the fuel, remember?)
Tell me what you think and I'll take the time and effort to explain more thoroughly what I am thinking!
Mabye make an enderblock in a 2x grid, then put in the center of a crafting station with 4 peices of redstone and another 4 peices of ender pearls. You make tw of them, link them up with redstone, and bravo, you have two blocks to teleport to via each other.
You're probably used to the current mode of teleportation with mods and hacks that have little to no requirements for use or are extremely cheap. For instance, holding a compass (cheap to make, or use a command to give it) and right click and ZOOM. you're a bit farther than you were before.
Dominus Curae is going down the right path, but your costs are way too high! The initial cost of creating a teleport device should be high, but the cost to maintain and continue to use the device should be a bit lower. Plus, collecting 100 pearls is a bit ridiculous. So far, with the current spawn rate of the Endermen, it's too much of a chore, if that is going to be your continued cost to use it.
i am currently working out some numbers and will be working on a teleportation mod using the principles discussed so far, once the MCP for 1.8 is released. I began workingon something similar in 1.7.3, but life and the recent updates are making that a back-seat deal. Plus, someone else may do it and I can just help tweak the settings and mechanics.
Anyway, way past my bedtime. Gotta sleep sometime ;-)
i think that with 4 or 9 ender pearls you can craft something like "teleportation pearl"
or something like this! coal = ender pearls red wool = redstone
you can throw them, like you throw eggs, but not as far, maybe 20 blocks max? when it lands you get teleported there!

Craft an arrow with an Ender pearl tip. You fire it, you teleport to wherever it lands.
