Have you ever tried to farm chickens? I have, and I have to say, it's very difficult and time-consuming. Plus it's not very rewarding. The chickens would despawn soon after you leave.
So, how do we fix this? CHICKEN CAGES!!! You can capture chickens in the cage, place 'em down, and wait to reap the rewards!
The cage could be right-clicked and a GUI would show one box for eggs, and one for chicken fodder(seeds). Eggs could probably generate every minecraft day or so. Chicken cages could be reclaimed by pickaxe, also releasing the chicken. Crafting Recipe
The recipe could be iron-ingots or iron fences placed in a box.
Think of all the cakes you can craft with the eggs!
Cakes for everyone!!!

Farming chickens can be a real pain in the @#%, because it takes FOREVER to collect the eggs, and chances of hatching a chicken are very slim. Well say GOODBYE to those long hours of old traditional chicken farming, and welcome the NEW simple, guaranteed way of farming chicken! The INCUBATOR! You could place a single egg along with some torches or redstone dust and a day later... BAM,a chicken pops out the top. The incubator can only guarantee one chicken spawned. Crafting Recipe
I was inspired to write this after days of venturing outside only to find one egg. I was even more disappointed when the egg hatched NOTHING!!! :angry.gif:
I also tried farming chickens once, and I was so disappointed to see that one-by-one, they would start to disappear. I don't think creating a "cage" item is a good idea though. I think it would be a lot more fun to be able to build a fenced-in area around the chickens and not have them die off. I read that animal breeding will be a part of the 1.9 update, so it seems logical to assume that would be possible.

How does it feel to be Master of the Universe? It's like wearing underpants fresh out of the dryer.

I see your point, but in the end, don't you think a cage and a fenced-in area are pretty much the same?
