I noticed that when Notch was blog posting about the endermen, he said that during early making of it, it seemed too much like a zombie.
It seems that Notch does not want to add new MOBs that are too similiar to pre-existing ones, but I think he shouldn't worry about that.
I would be fine with having a snake that acts like a zombie, except poisons you when it bites you. I would be fine with a golem thats just the zombie but with a stone texture and double health that drops a bunch of cobblestone. I would be fine with a demon that shoots fireballs that burn on contact for a short time and strafes like the skeleton, as long as it drops something other than arrows and bones, for example perhaps obsidian.
etc etc.
I don't see why anyone wouldn't. Just because an enemy isn't completely different from another doesn't mean you shouldn't add it. Having a nice variety of enemies in-game would be great. In fact, apparently "prefix monsters" will eventually be added - but I'd like them to all be more original rather than things like fire zombies, ice spiders and stone creepers. And the golem is an exception I'll allow. :tongue.gif:
Notch doesn't want to add to many mobs. Therefore he wants every mob he adds to be unique and have its own traits. A non-teleporting Enderman would truly just be a zombie that freezes when you look at it. Actually that would be easier to kill than a zombie, since they would freeze. It's really the first challenging mob to be honest, and that's why notch wanted. I completely understand why he made them teleport, he didn't want all the mobs to be too similar or too easy.

I never thought of people making mods that Notch would be stealing ideas from, and hey, Stealing? What? I'd think they would be proud as hell to see Notch use their idea. But nevertheless, I did not get any ideas from mods at all.
I think that if he's going to travel along his current path of putting in unique monsters, he needs to add dragons next.

There are so many that are fit to be in actual game.
Most of them just add variety, they aren't that different.
I actually made a mod ( my siggy) that allows mobs to have different skins and different races.
For instance, you make a txt file with zombie2 and you say how strong it is.
Then you make a png file named zombie2.
It works pretty well. It isn't dated for the 1.8 though, and I probably won't work on it any further, as random mobs did a mod similar to mine.
