There should be a way to repair equipment. This way you don't have to say good by to that nice diamond pickaxe you made.
Ok how it could work is first you need an anvil which could be made with and iron block and iron ingots. Then you'll need a bucket of lava and the material used to make the item your repairing and ofcourse the item that your are wanting to repair. Repairing an items will not compleatly repair it but will add a fraction back to the damaged equipment. And the fraction gets bigger if you have points put into your Repairing skill. Read this ( http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/629000-level-system/ ) As for the bucket of lava works a little like the furnace with the fuel indicator. But this one dosn't deplete unless its in use This way your not running back and forth looking for lava or anything but you will have to go off looking for some every once in a while.
I kinda like it but it would ruin the whole point of the game. go find tons of resources.
and you can easily make infinite lava like water and people would never have too look for resources again once they find there first 10 or so diamonds.
Yes but you should have to use resources to repair it like it it was a diamond pickaxe then you would need like 2 diamonds to repair it, and you should only be able to it like twice.

I thought they took that out because it could be used for griefing...
I think a hammer and anvil would be a cool way of doing repairs. I wouldn't mandate lava though. Coal should be fine.
I envision it opening like a furnace, but rather than a progress bar, while the item cooks a block is generated above based on the item to be repaired. You use the hammer to break this block yielding a fresh tool (and adding damage to the hammer of course)

For example a diamond pick could count as a single diamond in the creation of a new pick, or diamond armor, or anything else that uses diamonds.
The idea was to reward players for scrapping their equipment right before it would otherwise break break.
I actually really like this idea.
