Overall, it seems like the public release of the unfinished version 1.8 has been good for development. According to twitter, and from what we have seen in preview 2, bugs are being squashed at a very quick rate. Anyways, I was looking to download from the nightly build repo of Firefox, and then thought, "this would be awesome for minecraft!" So, what I am proposing is this:
An svn repository that allows immediate access to the latest in pseudo-stable minecraft builds. Keeping on an SVN ensures quick releases and that groups who cant figure it out steer away from these builds.
A dedicated bug tracker like bugzilla, trac, or github. Makes for easier bug lookup and management.

I have long thought Mojang should work on 3-4 things at a time and release a new build as soon as a new feature is finished. But a nightly build with the current people who use the forum would be disastrous. There would be nothing but complaints about how things are not done even though they are voluntarily downloading unfinished test builds.
Good concept, would not work well with most of the fan base.

That is why I am suggesting SVNs and a dedicated bug tracker. SVNs tend to weed out the unsavvy, and dedicated bug tracking solutions would ease forum stress.
I'm very much in favor of this. more frequent, buggier updates for those willing to deal with them would speed feedback and make development run smoother. +1
Yeah, but the speed that the article implies is not the actual. I'm talking about one build a day, no matter how stable. Plus, so far they only are doing it for small groups.

While yes, this is true, there is too private, which was before, and now it is too public.
