This was my response to that Ender tools topic, but it got locked for some reason while I was posting a response.
I don't think Ender tools is a very creative or original idea. People want to turn everything into a tool or piece of equipment. The stuff we have is more than enough to deal with the current mobs in this game.
It would be a better idea if they allowed you to craft an item with the ender pearls that would allow you to "jump" or teleport, like the Enderman are capable of doing. It would have durability, of course, so you can't use them infinitely and only within a certain distance. It would make cave and mountain exploration more managable.
Also we all know that there are people who will be building stuff in Survival mode, so might as well give them a tool that will allow them to make giant sculptures and crap through legit means without using the creative mode.
Right now there's no easy way to scale cliffs or explore deep pits, ravines, etc. Unless you like building dirt towers.

This is exactly what my first thought was just from hearing that there would be an item that would be dropped specifically by the enders.
Teleportation is THE most obvious idea. Craft 3x3 pearls and get a platform that is placed like a pressure plate, standing on it teleports you to any of the other platforms that have been placed. Which portal you are teleported to can either be determined by whichever order the portal plates were placed in (most recent teleports to next most recent, earliest placed portal plate teleports to most recent) or it can be set to teleport to the closest portal plate in the direction that the player is facing.
Of course if used in the Nether, it should only be able to access other portalplates that are in the Nether.
Now, Enders are not hostile unless you look directly at them, they aren't all that difficult to kill, and they honestly aren't all THAT dangerous even when they are trying to kill you, so to balance this awesome ability, 2 things should happen;
1) Enders should be able to teleport AWAY from the player if they have been injured to near death, and should simply disappear when the sun rises, no dropped items.
2) Players who teleport via a portal plate drop all of their items at the initial portal plate.
That 2nd rule sounds almost overboard, EXCEPT for when you consider the idea of the Enderchest. 8 ender pearls arranged in a Chest formation will get you an enderchest. Half the inventory of a normal chest, cannot be stacked, must have open space above it. All enderchests share the same inventory, which is specific to the player opening the chest (player A cannot see any items that player B placed in the enderchest)
Of course, because the ender pearls come from an ender who exists only at night, both portal plates and the ender chest will only function at night, or in the nether. If either of these blocks are touched by sunlight, they will be broken and disappear. Even more concerning is that if those blocks or the pearls used to make them are in the player's inventory and the player is touched by sunlight, they will be destroyed and lost from the player's inventory.
I never liked the idea of creating ender-based tools. but yes I think ender-pearls should be given a better implication.
I would like to see a teleport or similar based item come about, (this would really fit nicely amongst lovers of the portal mod, and lovers of the aether mods jump-based items.) However, in my honest opinion I feel that Ender-pearls will be more or less used as a money system in NPC villages (unless gold bars are used, for they are relatively useless as of now)
@GreyAcumen I like your ideas quite a bit with the teleporting pads, but I do not like the idea of dropping items and then enderchests. When creating an idea, a rule I go by is "If the nerf you placed on your idea needs to be nerfed to make it fair, elliminate it." You shouldnt have to be able to create a new chest to compensate for the item drop that compensates for the teleportings ease. I think an Endermans ability to flee would be acceptable on it's own. And of course, after some gameplay and modifications of damage, speed, and drop ratios, etc, the ender pearls will become a valuable material.
There's already a mod that adds teleporters, I'm just talking about an item like a wand that lets you jump a short distance...just enough to allow the player to climb up cliffs or down canyon walls.
Actually, that effect would fit much closer to the way the enders work as well. But skip the wand, just let them be used directly from their pearl form. Right click while holding a pearl and be instantly teleported to whatever block or mob you are pointing at, no matter how far away.

1 pearl = 1 use.
