I was just in the middle of playing minecraft with the "1.8 pre-release 2 :smile.gif:", and I have got into the point where I am the most defenseless creature in the entire game.
What I am talking about is the abandomed mines, and I pretty much got excited mainly for the biomes and the villages, but I have seen less actual natural caves than mines. Now the mines if Notch was designed them to be something like an actual dungeon, then he did a good job in that because I cannot see anything, and barely getting out alive with only 2 iron ores.
I don't think it's respectful to play such a thing in peaceful mode, but I don't want this much trouble(and probably alot of people do not want either) to be happening, because the odds of something popping out of nowhere are very high because the mines are so narrow and the wood is not helping at all(now we are at it, how people managed to build that same mine in the first place without going in an enterance).
So what is my point? what if one don't want this much trouble, but they would still like to mine in natural caves or be facinated of the beauty of the outside world?
I looked at the world generation options, and I am pretty sad how it's only saying "dungeons and villages: On/Off". I think we should have more control of what we want to see or what we want to experience, but like not complete control over the system, because we should still have the random generation up. So essentially how about additional options such as these:
-Selecting (individually) what structures we want to see.
[Villages: On/Off]
[Dungeons: On/Off]
etc.
-Equalizer for biomes: like frequency of the forests or mountains but not entire all-crazy status that you see a mountain going across 10 chuncks and you see one every 5 chuncks. Main thing this will do is basically you can imbalance the Equalizer just so that you see more mountains than trees for example.
Simply: if X is higher than Y, there will be more X than Y, but if X and Y both high, they will be seen more often than Z if Z is lower.
-And also let's not forget: default setting of the advanced options will be set to [off], but if you want it to be on you will need to set it to [on] and you have the option to change the everything that is in there.
Also another idea:
There is a paradox going on in the mines feature. They don't have an enterance: Easy access to the mine with wood barricade with a slight view into the mine, and the barricade containing a sign with anything that implies or says something single-meaning. In other words the mines don't look abandomed enough and probably it would make sense for a mine to have a barricaded enterance that says anything in context like "Danger" or "Keep out" if it is abandomed. It can also give info the player, so if the player is not ready to fight yet, he can just leave the mine for another day and prepare 'til then.
Anyone who has played Dwarf Fortress would probably love some more advanced worldgen options without having to mod them in.
I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but having control over almost everything, like biome sizes, rarity, relative frequency, as well as ore rarity, number of strongholds, mineshaft density, and pretty much anything you can think of that is covered in worldgen, would mean anyone can create the world they want to play in. No more complaining about (BUT I WANT MORE X AND LESS Y) Also extremely bugged worlds were always the best ones in dwarf fort, so messing up worldgen options can be a good thing!
