i think alligators would be a perfect addition now that swamps are being introduced, here's how i pictured it.
- part passive, part hostile. you could argue how this would work, but instead of the usual day/night thing that spiders experience i think it could either be completely random or based on the gators hunger (like lions in mo creatures.) you wouldn't know if it was going to attack as you sneak by or if it will just lay there.
- slow on land, a bit faster in water
- spawn in swamps primarily, rivers occasionally(?)
- it's actually do-able while sticking to the 'vanilla' mc experience, plus there are some awesome modeling possibilities; think about the tail.
- opens the door for more wildlife, like gazelles or deer, stuff for the gator to attack. i think more wildlife would add a lot of depth to the game.
- alligator scale armor, you know you want it.
so yeah what do you think? the possibilities seem large.
Alligator scale, stronger than leather, weaker than iron, but not by too much.
I remember from Notch's tumblr that he seemed interested in mob to mob interactions, something about a wolf chasing a chicken after the fleeing was added. Actually in a mod called evil minecraft (I think) they had Boars which operated on a full->passive/Hungry->hostile system as well, and it was interesting. Can't vouch for Mo creature's lions though.
support x 10000, they just need to make sure they have better AI than the stupid squids, because squids are just retarded, and if they do that they should just improve squid AI at the same time, but if that is the case I think there should be something more valuable in the water worth risking your legs for, like crabs or something that take a really long time to cook and then fully heal both hunger and health and can't be eaten raw, anyway I think its a good idea I hope it gets added to the game

=o crabs and lobsters could be interesting. using iron and/or wood make lobster traps. Swim to the bottom of a river/lake/ocean and place it down. Come back for it eventually and you may find a lobster or crab inside. Higher chance if you baited it with any random food item. The lobsters and crabs themselves could work like the fish currently do. No physical form, just a random chance of being captured.
Errrr sorry for the topic change >_> But lobster traps would certainly be worth wading into an alligator infested pool of water for.
