I was thinking: they can add a system to find the strongholds of a world, don't know if the quests will have some kind of tracker or if any of them uses the stronghold, but this idea I just had could be a endgame stuff, you collect parts of a map(or another item that can look in the chunks near you until it found a specific pattern like the bookshelves or even a new kind of block that could be added at the "heart" of the stronghold, and direct you to it) as reward from some quests and after you have all the parts you can reconstruct the map and it would direct you to a stronghold where you would do the last quest or an "epic" quest.
But if the strongholds won't have anything to do with quests then create that item and make it to be droped by monsters inside the mineshafts or chests or dungeons or any other rare thing in the game
The whole point of the adventure update is to reward players for leaving their 6x6 house and exploring. If you provide a way to easily find the buried goodies out there then what is the point? Jeb said there would be three strongholds per map as of later today when he updates the pre-release; so get out there and go find them.
I see your point, but I don't want to spend all the time of my day searching for something I don't even know how to find, the quests will be useless, "Go out there, find a stronghold then return here and you will have your reward!" I can do this without a quest by exploring(like you said) , for me adventure means that the game will give you a objective, but if this objective is "Do the same crap you are doing since you begin playing this game" then I will hardly enjoy this update
