THIS IS BIOME SUGGESTIONS AND NOTES FOR 1.8 STOP MOVING MY THREAD I WORKED HARD ON D:<
Hello guys
This is my first real thread and I want to leave it open for everyone.
No, I have not played the pre-release of 1.8, but i plan on doing so soon if it isn't released in the near future. But, alas I still have a couple ideas about the Biomes. The Biomes in Minecraft have always bothered me a little. They end abruptly, and don't seem to have the depth that I would look for in a Biome. I am a Fish and Wildlife Technician and Graphic Designer, and with this previous knowledge I feel like the basic features of the Biomes in real life should be present in Minecraft.
Here are some basic overall feelings I have:
- Biomes end to abruptly, they should flow in and out of one another. For example: Mountain ranges should flow into heavy forest, and ancient lakes should fade into swamps. In nature everything is linked by water. Mountains giv it, forest and plains consume it, and when it reaches the ocean swamps consume it. Deserts are at the end of the streams, far inland.
- Wildlife is also an issue. Cows should flock, chickens should flock etc. Pigs should not be pigs until domesticated and so on.
I don't really have any other OVERALL opinions about Biomes, but I do have some suggestions for the Biomes I do know a bit about in the real world. Of course I am not a programmer, so if any of these things are possible, I'm the last to ask.
Swamps are my favorite new Biome. They could have soooooo much depth, and from what i heard the Minecraft swamps don't even hold a stick to the real worlds guns. Here are some suggestions:
- Vines could grow like nets across thick forested areas. If the player is jumping from tree to tree they would act like a net, holding them for them to cross. Of course, vines are not very strong, and would break if you stood on them to long ( maybe sprinting is the only safe way across?)
- Trees: They could be different from the forests. Juniper, Cypress, and Gum trees are mainly found in swampy areas. For example, Cypress are known for soaking up all the water around them, making a safe building area for your home in the swamps.
- Some crops cannot be planted in the swamps because of the lack of solid ground. For example, you couldn't plant wheat, but could have fruit trees, like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. ( grapefruit trees where introduced into swampy areas during the war as a food source)
- Unfortunately, since there is a lack of land, houses cannot be built directly on the swamp floor. They are to heavy and can be consumed by the swamp. Great timing for tree forts!
- Can be conjoined to a large river, or ocean. Water needs to come from somewhere!
- swampy water!
ANIMALS: : D
- Crocodiles, frogs, snakes, monkeys, parrots! and snapping turtles! They all call the swamp there home! Imagine a crocodile or snapping turtle lurking near by, waiting till night to PREY on you! Exciting!
PLANTS
- Water lily's, moss ( most moss is a fire starter for the indigenous people that lived in the swamps!), tall grassed areas with watery bottoms
Mountains should be interesting. Image a vast range of mountains, knowing that water is on the other side and maybe a forest, when the player is stuck in a desert on the opposite side. ADVENTURESOME.
- Mountains should have tress only at there base. Trees cannot grow on the tops of mountains because the are is too thin and the gravel is to loose.
- Snow on the peeks?
- Ice cold glacier rivers coming from spots in the mountain ranges, maybe a small Oasis in the middle of a group of mountains. ( bright greeny blue color?)
- Grass can be found higher then the tree line with certain flowers, and plants that can only be found on the mountain sides. This would force the player to explore to be able to complete some jobs.
ANIMALS
- Big horn sheep, bears, antelope, and mountain lions!
PLANTS
- wild flowers, edible weeds, potatoes?, and maybe some kind of vegetable. Have quite decided on that one yet.

(I'm assuming that you used PaintToolSai) Your text was a bit rushed with the goat and a little amount of detail. Apart from that the biome ideas are good and I think everyone wants to have wonderful mountains.
