these would have the ability to dig underground one block below the surface in dirt only, and pop up at night. Their promary purpose would be to creep out the player by their scritch-scratch sounds as they dig the soil, but also as a pest species that would hang around in areas where there is farming or sugar cane and occasionally pop out of the ground to steal a crop. Moles would not be able to dig lower than the third block, and would not be able to dig through gravel or any type of stone, so crop protection would not only require fencing but under-soil protection if it was a molespawn area.
The player, on encountering little one block tunnels under the soil, would have to then think about crop protection in that area. Moles would only spawn in some biomes (e.g. rolling grassy hills).
