I was trying to make lava traps the other day and found that it was rather difficult.
Let me explain...
1.Lava does not flow fast enough for a wall trap.
2.If you block the source of the lava flow, it doesn't disappear.
I think you guys see what i'm talking about... I would like lava to be more like water in the way where it flows faster and when the source gets blocked it stops flowing.
Now hear me out!
I know you guys are saying "Well what if i'm mining and i find lava. I won't have time to block it."
OK! This is my solution to that problem! only when you place lava out of a bucket does it flow like water. Because i agree it can be VERY frustrating when you have maybe 14 diamonds and 3 stacks of iron and you get engulfed by unexpected lava.
I think that Magma should have one set of properties, regardless of whether it's from a bucket or not.
Probably, magma ought to flow a little bit faster, and disappear more reliably upon removal of the source. None of this "let's change the object's basic properties based on arbitrary, unintuitive context."

I agree with all but the part where you limit the change to lava from buckets. So lava pockets underground become deadlier. Great! Right now, anyone who knows what they are doing is not in any danger at all from lava. Its just too slow. indeed, it may cause people to develop other strategies like not mining ore until they check the area around it for lava and storing ore in chests or *gasp* minecarts.
I agree, real life lava is a ton faster, but just to make it slightly faster would be good.
That, actually depends on the type of lava or magma. Yes, there are types of lava that flow faster but mostly it flows rather slowly and, sadly, does not disappear when the "source" is closed...

What a waist of resources.
That's why I suggested this!
Who's With Me!?
I don't understand. Please Explain.

I eat my cake all the time and it works out great!
Lava should maintain the same properties no matter where it is found or placed. Though it should disappear when the source block is removed.

Lava does disappear, it just takes a lot longer than water (which is almost inmediate)
