So 1.8 now features a food bar, which let you regen health. But the food we've come to rely on for healing is now used to heal the food bar, but what if you're in a tight spot, when you can't run and hide to regen because you are surrounded by mobs. What if you need health on the fly? So here I have 2 suggestions for direct healing.
The first is one that has been suggested a lot, bandages. I won't explain the crafting procedures because you can find that in other threads. Bandages will heal 4 hearts but will take about 10 seconds for the animation, you can walk but you cannot use other items.
The next is herbal tea, this will heal 2.5 hearts and to craft this you need to make a bottle.
Bottles are created by smelting one piece of glass.
Once you have a bottle, you can right-click on water to fill it up.
The herbs will come from grass and vines. they will have a 20% chance to drop from these blocks.
Once you get both ingredients put them together on a crafting table and you get a bottle of herbal tea, a bottle of it can be used 5 times, and will leave an empty bottle when it's empty. You will only be able to bring up to 3 non-stackable bottles with you.
I think that this will be a useful addition to the game. Do you?
I was thinking more along the line of potions... But herbal tea is nice. Bandages are ok, i guess. It would be nice to have another use for paper or wool, anyway.
Direct healing does need to be added, I agree with that. Having bandages doesn't make all too much sense, in those ten seconds you could have just been regenerating health the full-hunger way. As for your hebal tea, I would also say no, becuase it requires too much 1-time-use content. I think we would best have a health potion of some sort, or just mushroom soup healing, instead of you munching on the wooden bowl for some reason.

As for your hebal tea, I would also say no, becuase it requires too much 1-time-use content. I think we would best have a health potion of some sort, or just mushroom soup healing, instead of you munching on the wooden bowl for some reason.
The Regen rate seems really slow even if the food bar is full, but the bandages do seem a bit impractical, since if you have 510 seconds to heal yourself, you'll probably have time to regen. As for the herbal tea, your problem seems to be with the number of time it needs to be used to have any effect right? The just raise the amount it heals to 2 and a half hearts, I don't want it too high since these items are more for tight situations, and I want the food feature to shine through. That's why I would limit it to 3 bottles that are non stackable.
