Dear Notch,
I appreciate the delightfully evil idea of the whole scary enderman concept however they're not particular threatening once they actually reach you even without armor, and as you feared the mob's 'atmosphere' returns back similar to a regular zombie situation.
Just A Simple Suggestion: Increase collision impact, as in make the character fly further back when hit by the enderman, that way as you stated in your interesting article of 'feeling of control' the player will be conscious of his/her actions and surroundings when apprehending the enderman, say if the enderman would knock the player into a unfortunate ditch or surrounding they would know they would be a goner. And also by sending the character back by a fair distance each time the enderman would be able to continuously chase the character and have a upper advantage over the player using it's speed, this constant 'rush' will panic the player making things appear even more scary. This way the enderman can have this advantage for the whole fight instead of just when first catching up to the character. Also you might want to add half a heart or more damage just for the heck of it, scary situations lose it's touch if kept for too long if you know what I mean. :biggrin.gif:
well I say we start with uping their health (i can two hit kill with a stone sword no crits.). second new sounds something ominous and inhuman (zombie grumbles are "human". dead human, but stil). third have the block they hold affect their damage.
any other effects (like yours) could be added too.
What if, when you hit them, they teleported behind you or to your side?

WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens. (Griefing is an art. And a lot of dead creepers.)
What I'd really like for Endermen would be something different than normal damage dealing. Instead of dealing damage, they could drain your food bar... and once you're on 0 food, they are capable of teleporting you away, like a 100 blocks or so.
Instead of killing you, they sort of sap your chance of survival indirectly.
But the existence of enderman is to make players have fear them directly in a fun way. Notch wanted something that the player would be creeped out because they would be "in control" of their actions and tactics, not just click away 2 times and that it, you could just eat something that was in your inventory and the problem was easily solved.
And if they teleported you a 100 blocks away, I would say that wouldn't really be fun and could be annoying if you were to be doing something, as notch said he wanted enderman to be scary in a 'fun way'.

I agree, simple things like that would/could be implemented. The idea originated from slenderman, I would say he would sound more like supernatural ghost rather than a brainless zombie. But the block thing could be too technical for notch's taste.

I tink a cool thing for endermen should be you cannot do criticals on them that makes them a ittle more scary what you think op?
Despite not being the OP,
I personally think that this would make things less fun for those who stop being scared of Endermen. I mean, when they teleport rapidly, it's difficult to land a crit on them.
So, it makes it a bit of a game to try and get them. :33

nope, they only do 1 heart damage very stiffly =.=

The zombie thing is a placeholder.
