Ok so how about we can make dirt paths or stone-paved roads by using shovel on a DIRT block by using RIGHT-CLICK then placing the stone if you will make stone paved roads and just leave it as is if you want dirt paths

If you dont understand this, I will explain. In a crafting table, there are 9 spaces in 3x3. The "-" in the diagram symbolizes the empty spaces while "x" symbolizes the ingridient. If there are multiple ingridients, one will be "x", one will be "y", etc.
"x" means stone so you need three stones in a row

A stone road will look like stone tiles and when placed, it is very flat so it means the shoveled dirt wont be fully occupied and will still leave some height change

-unlike stone paved roads, a dirt path will get washed away by water returning them to a normal dirt block (much like soil erosion)

How about this for an idea. As the player walks along grass, it will eventually turn into dirt and then into gravel as the player continues. This is an easy enough concept as a similar operation goes with farming (on a more immediate degree)
This allows the player to see his most followed paths and adds a bit of flavor for those players seeking immersion. If the player doesn't like the grass to change, he can simply pop up and replace the blocks.

The problem with separating the grass and the path with a different block: It would not make it nice, especially for a nature walk area
