So Jeb (or maybe its notch, i dunno) wants to remove mod grinding from the game meaning that mobs will only drop items when they die if you kill it by hand, meaning mob traps in their original sense are useless. They want to remove it for game balance and I can understand that.
However there are ways to balance it without removing it. You can just make mob drops similar to sheep shearing. So basically killing a mob by hand would yield 4 or so items while killing it by a trap or natural death would only drop 0-1 items overall therefor making it rewarding to kill mobs by hand but still viable to make giant mod systems, Also somehow make it that mobs from mob spawnners must be killed by hand so that they cant be abused (especially since the new mine shafts and strongholds will have allot of them)
Also Mobs should only drop exp when killed directly that way people cant have exp farms
Ill expand on this and improve this idea later I just kind of scrawled this out quickly, I would like to tweet this to jeb but I dont have a twitter and doubt i could find a way to convey this within the character limit, but if your willing to try you can tweet it too him, we need to save mob grinding!
I think that mob grinding should be removed completely.
Getting mob EXP should be the result of actually killing mobs, not from sitting around in an experience-machine.

Your right about the exp part I forgot to mention it exp shpould only be throught direct killing
