Hello. I have had this idea for a while now, and I really would like to see your input on my idea. So, here I go.
First things first, for people who don't know what Liquorice is, I will provide a quick explanation. Liquorice is an herb that is found in southern Europe and parts of Asia. The plant is harvested in Autumn, 2-3 years after it's planted. After harvested, the root is boiled to obtain it's extract, then the water is evaporated, leaving a thick syrup. This syrup can also be turned into a solid form, which I will incorporate into my idea further on in this post. This syrup can be used as flavoring for many candies when mixed with sugar, and also some parts can be used for medical purposes. To conclude my introduction, I am going to say that eating Liquorice in extreme quantities can be extremely toxic.
So now, how this can be incorporated into Minecraft. This plant grows often in large fields, and should appear in small quantities. To express the rarity of finding a Liquorice plant on the surface, there is about 1 small group of plants found in every 2000x2000 square blocks. I know how much that is, and hopefully that should make finding it a little bit of a challenge, but not make it impossible for newbies to get.
The Liquorice plant can look like wheat, Only completely green. Yes, the plants are green, not purple. It should be harvested with a hoe, the better the hoe gives better drops.
Hand= 30% 1 Liquorice Seed, 70% Nothing
Wooden Hoe: 70% 1 Liquorice Seed, 25% Nothing, 5% 2 Liquorice Seeds
Stone Hoe: 70% 1 Liquorice Seed, 15% Nothing, 15% 2 Liquorice Seeds
Iron Hoe: 50% 1 Liquorice Seed, 30% 2 Liquorice Seeds, 15% Nothing, 5% 3 Liquorice Seeds
Diamond Hoe: 40% 1 Liquorice Seeds, 40% 2 Liquorice Seeds, 20% 3 Liquorice Seeds
Gold Hoe: 50% 2 Liquorice Seeds, 30% 3 Liquorice Seeds, 20% 1 Liquorice Seed
(I hate these statistics, but it'll do for now)
Now you have your Liquorice seeds. Take them home, make a nice little patch of farmland, and plop down your seed. To grow, it is necessary for it to be in direct sunlight, torch light won't work. Not sure if this could be programmed, though. Anyway, once it's planted, it should take a Minecraft week to fully grow. Don't moan, in real life it would take 2-3 years. Of course, that's when its good soil. Crap soil should slow it down.
When harvested, it takes the form of the Liquorice root. It may also have seeds, with the probabilities above. Put this root in the furnace, out comes Liquorice extract. Finally, the fruits of your labor! ..But what can it do? Two things. The first is really easy! Put it in a crafting table with some sugar, and...
Sweet Liquorice! This kind of Liquorice is what you really want if you love candy. Somehow during the crafting process, the Liquorice syrup fused with the oxygen and carbon molecules in the sugar, forming a molecular bond between the elements to form a delicious sweet candy. This candy can be enjoyed, and has a wonderful sweet taste. However, this candy doesn't heal hearts, because candy is really bad for your health, right? Instead, movement doesn't bring down your food meter for them next 5 minutes, real life time! A delicious sugar rush.
But, what if you don't want to sprint and jump and swim to your hearts content? What if after a long journey, you just want something to cure your aching pains. Too bad you only have Liquorice extract, a furnace and some coal. Liquorice doesn't heal wounds!
Wait, that's not true. This is Minecraft! Anything can happen! That's right, re-smelting Liquorice extract makes a pure Liquorice drop. Great for pain, and healing creeper/zombie/skeleton/spider/poison spider/enderman/silverfish wounds! Take a drop of this drop, and it actually directly fills your health meter 5 hearts! Great!
Just a note for both: Don't take more than 3 Liquorice products in 20 minutes... you character will get poisoned badly.
Well, thats my suggestion. If I left anything out, feel free to say what. I don't care if it's harsh, give me some criticism. :laugh.gif:
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm very responsible, when ever something goes wrong they always say I'm responsible.
Last one went well, grow this one too!! HAHAHAHA!!!
I'm unsure about the hearts healing of the Liquorice Drop. 5 seems a little high.
Not to mention that 1.8's pre-release has yet to be out long enough to get a good enough idea as to the health and hunger bar synergy, which is likely to overshadow many ideas. It may even lead to cocoa, cookie, apples, and golden apples all becoming only treasure chest loots for the rest of the game.

It seems practical enough though.
