I propose that we bring multiple crafting options in the game. The output on the right of the arrow in the crafting menus would display 4 boxes, each for different things to craft from one arrangement.
For example, say you have a log in crafting. In one box, there would be 4 wood planks. In the second, 8 sticks (One log goes to 4 wood planks which translate to 8 sticks), and in the third, a workbench (4 wood planks make one workbench). Another example would be arranging armor. If you place 9 leather in a box, like you'd make a mineral block, it could give you the option to craft one of 4 armor pieces. By crafting a hat, for example, the leather in the top row, and the leather in the bottom middle slot would remain for further crafting.
Maybe when you hover your mouse over each of the possible products, a little box will pop up near your mouse with how many of each of the ingredients it will use. So you don't get messed up
with things that take multiple quantities of the ingredients.
It would be convenient, I suppose, but I don't think it's necessary. I often arrange leather so that I can just click and produce a tunic, then a cap, then boots without reloading.
I think there's something to be said for creating advantages for division of labour and economies of scale in multiplayer, too. Focussing on making just one thing at a time, and lots of it, is more efficient, and can make trade interactions more worthwhile. I'll crank out a whole lot of stairs, while you churn out slabs.
