So you have just started a new game, you find yourself in the middle of the world with nothing, and you know that night time is coming and with it, certain death. But its okay cause you have some time. Time to build yourself a shelter. It will be crude at first but that's okay, you just have to survive the first night. Then you can start mining and gathering, crafting and building. You will have that SKULL FORT soon enough. So you start furisouly chopping wood, WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, you push through the pain cause the alternative is zombifestation!!!
This is for me, the funnest part of minecraft. The survival aspect! The fact that you know that impending doom is upon you and you have to build your way out of it. But what happens once your skull fort is up? What happens when you have placed torches all over your area and mobs no longer spawn there? What happens when you get good armour and weapons and mobs no longer are a threat? What happens when your stupendous building is so grand that your life has guaranteed safety? Well then, for me, the game has kind of ended...
In minecraft, there is a sudden and obvious drop in danger and I believe this removes a lot of what makes the game fun. As humans, our brains give us great reward when we are able to overcome things that are trying to eat us, using ingenuity, and in the first 5 minutes of minecraft we get a wonderful dish of this. But then it disappears and the game becomes more like lego, which don't get me wrong is also awesome, but is an entirely different game play to the survival style that we crave and love (note that terraria, a 2D spinoff tackles this issue quite successfully).
What I would like to see is more global threats added to the game, and specifically threats to your skull fortress (by this I mean threats to the things that you the player, have built and use to survive the night). These things would be once off global events that you need to prepare for and if you don't, just like in day 1 of the game, you will certainly die. These events would give you a goal, a purpose, a reason to do that thing you do so well, and in turn, that will give you some nice slices of fun \:biggrin.gif:/
Just image playing the game with these added scenarios:
The once in a million year meteor shower happens, right on your head! For a couple of nights in a row, the sky is filled with shooting stars. This tells you that in 1 month (X game day night cycles), a meteor will land right on your face, and on your house, destroying it all and sending you back to day 1 UNLESS you build. You build something that will stop this event dead in its tracks (be it a magic alter, a rocket, a force field barrier whatever, thats not too important).
The zombies have gotten smarter, and are holding pickaxes!!! (WARNING, borrowed from terraria) - you notice that the moon looks different. In fact, it is slowly turning red! you calculate that you have 1 month before the blood moon and by extension 1 month to prepare for an all out zombie attack! You need to build real defenses, moats, arrow towers, traps cause the attack is imminent. After 30 days, a HUGE ass zombie hoard attacks your skull fort, tearing you and it (yes i mean the physical blocks) apart in the process UNLESS you can build adequate defenses.
Is it getting hot in here? Who let the larva in??? There is some seismic activity of late indicating that a FRIKKEN VOLCANO is forming right under your feet (well actually your fort). You can run and abandon you fort and start again OR you can dig to the source and block it off, perhaps by making cunning use of obsidian...
Dolly must have been nutritious cause these worms are getting HUGE!!! you start to notice that the worms are getting bigger (also that there are worms) and that they can dig through (just move through, not actually destroy) sand, earth and even rock. You realise that you have to replace the walls and floors of your fort with stronger blocks to keep them out. but making these blocks is not that simple...
Is it a bird? is it a plane? no, its frikken GARGOYLES!!! giant flying beasts attack your fort each night, shooting magical fireballs that tear through your walls, doors and bookshelves. TO THE GIANT CROSSBOW MOUNTED ON THE TALLEST TOWER!!! oh wait, you need to build one first. what fun!!!
These are just some scenarios off the top of my head that would add more survival feelings to the game. The idea is that not all of them would happen every game, they would be kind of random and happen at different stages of the game. They would be once off events that you have to prepare for. This would make the game more challenging, and would to be frank, give it a point. Cause atm, once you have passed day 1, you have clocked the game...
I somewhat agree with the fact that the game becomes very easy after a certain point, but I'm not sure random events are the way to fix this. While i think that random events might be fun, there is still the time in between them where it is still easy.
My solution to this problem is to gently scale up the difficulty as time progresses.
there could be new, more difficult, mob types come after a certain number of Minecraft days.
for example after 10 MC days there could be a chance for "Tough Zombies" to spawn they have slightly more health and do a little bit more damage. at this point the spawn rate is still low but could be gradually increased over time.
Then maybe after a couple more days tough skeletons spawn. then tough spiders and tough creepers. then maybe there could be zombie diggers, skeleton elites, higher chance for spider jockeys, charged creepers spawn naturally, Zombie bosses etc.
You kinda see what i'm getting at here? I think a scaled system would be better than rare events.

I agree with you here. But once I reached this point I went exploring. To see what my world had to offer. And I saw vast amazing landscapes that gave me ideas of grandeur. The epic structures that I could build off this land.
It is hard to move and entire base worth of resources across Minecraft unless your willing to make multiple trips or build a rail system all the way there. So you gather everything you deem most valuable and essential and head out to a new area. Start over with the experience you've gained and a little bit of a head start. Repeat.

I dont like the idea of not being able to experience all minecraft has to offer in one game or world. I want everything all in one with no reasons to make a new world outside of not liking the one generated for you.
I would like to see boss mobs added. I would like to have added elements of danger. However not to the extent that i need 30 different ingenious designs to thwart them. You should add natural disaster to your list of danger. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Flooding, Cave-ins, Volcanic eruptions, Earthquakes, and Landslides could all effect types of blocks differently.

-I got a fever, and the only prescription, is moar Minecraft.

Cool cool, I think i see where you are coming form but this still doesn't solve the problem of safety and what I mean by that is once your fort has been built, nothing can get you. Nothing can get in, nothing spawns around you, even tougher zombies will have no chance at getting to your brain cause you behind your walls. The only way to overcome this is to have threats that threaten your buildings, and not just mobs that hit harder. Also, the events I suggested are not rare. The idea is that in every game you WILL have to deal with at least 1, probably 5! I really don't like the scaling system, its too similar to WOW grinding which is barf. I want to have to engineer a MASSIVE solution to real, seemingly unstoppable danger!!! not just get better gear so i can kill slightly better mobs that i never encounter anyway...

Well you could have mobs that could break into your house which was kind of what i was getting at.
The base idea is that you have to gradually have to build better and better buildings/equipment etc. in order to defend against steadily increasing natural dangers.
perhaps the best solution might be a mix of these two ideas? random events for the imminent danger aspect and scaled mobs/other dangers for the times in between.
