When any animal is seeing or hearing an animal in distress they also should flee.
So like if there is a herd of cow on the pasture, and then a player attack one the whole herd begin to flee. It could be stampede and maybe in this mode, the stampede can hurt the player if he gets in the way. This way can reinteract as the lion king. wit da wildabest.
It also make it easier to get animals off yer properties by just punching one and having the whole lot skidaddle.
Maybe have the Stampede destroy the grass and small lighter blocks (grass,tall grass, leaves) like they would in IRL.So you can also tell where the Stampede went and follow the animal, sorta tracking it.

Thats another good idea. Any planted type stuff like wheat, reeds, small grasses, mushrooms, flowers etc could be knocked to item form and even the grass could turn to dirt with random chance.

I agree notch already done said that he wants more interactions with mobs so it just adds some additional flavors.
