Here's an interesting suggestion for the new Endermen mobs. Endermen could act differently when holding a certain block or near one. imagine you happened to come across one and, while careful not to stare at it, you placed certain blocks near it. Perhaps it would respond, pick it up, and place it with other types of blocks in special arrangements.
They could help you in a way by building you an arrow to a stronghold or such, build a shrine (or some small structure) housing a secret item (and protect it?), or some sort of Easter egg.
There could even be the rare site of several endermen working together or observing structures for a while (making them a curious mob in ways. imagine finding a building similar to one you've made because endermen studied and created a replica. I might be overshooting it at this point. XD ). They could be an interesting mob to observe. (sort of :tongue.gif: )
Some sort of interaction like this could be pretty cool and unique if added in a future update. And Notch is already taken to the idea of mobs interacting with each other and other things. Though it may or may not fit the image most have of the endermen.
Thoughts? Other situations?
(excuse any possible grammatical or spelling errors, plz :tongue.gif: )

nice idea but the amount of lag produced would be anoying.
@ABCDOMG
Yeah, the latter ideas would probably do that. The others should be manageable without sacrificing performance, though they might be a bit tough to code.

I don't think that would cause too much lag. A quick scan of an area near the Endermen for any player placed blocks, which then the Enderman attempts to replicate with whatever they can find. That wouldn't lag much, if at all.

the idea for a mob copying your own build has already been suggested by notch called a "mimic"
as for the other ideas the endermen are not able to pick up blocks you have placed (so you structures can not be destroyed by them)
but the idea of acting differently to different blocks is good and how about you drop blocks for them to pick up (not placing them). I love the idea about shrines and Easter eggs built by them. I can only imagine what they worship (slendermen?)
I like the idea of mysterious structures. Not something so straightforward as an arrow, but maybe if you find two matching ones, the position directly between them would be above a dungeon.

Well I suppose minecraft should be able to handle that. I don't know what the engine, as it is currently, can handle when it comes to AI and I don't know the specifics of having one recognize a variety of blocks. But the more I think about it the more plausible it seems. I'm going to have confidence it can be done.
ha, I wonder if an Enderman would suffer the same building issues we do with creepers.

Nice idea. It would be a good reason to (face our fears in some cases) and search out endermen. And exploration is the key of these next few updates, right? It fits well.

I forgot about that. :/ yeah, dropping it for them would have to do the job. And lol now that would be quite a sight.

what about:
no cam cording (if you have seen marble hornets you will understand)
Really? Do you remember were you read or heard that, like an interview, or a video from PAX, or something?
