We all know how wolves will attack sheep while they're wild, it's something they do. But in pre- Beta 1.8, it means nothing to us, it's one less passive mob that will respawn shortly, and hey, look, free wool! But in the upcoming adventure update , passive mobs are speculated to become more rare, as well as not despawning that fast, if at all, allowing you to make a farm for them, and harvest their resources. Now back to the wolves, if/when this is implemented, it goes from a wolf killing a random sheep, to a wolf killing your sheep! However...
This is not a problem.
This teaches responsibility, and if not teaches, then punishes for not having it. If you don't keep your sheep locked up, so they can't get out, or better yet, a wolf can't get in, you will be fine, but if you leave ways for wolves to snack on your sheep, then you lost your sheep, but as of right now, that's all you'll lose. I'm suggesting that we fix that.
I'm suggesting that Mojang make it so that wolves will prey on ALL your farmland critters. This will give a reason to pent up your animals, to protect them because something WILL get them if you don't keep them safe.
Actual source. If you are going to give a source, make sure it actually has a source. And if it does, just add that source.
And this idea seems OK, I wouldn't mind it as I plan on fencing in all my animals anyways. But what happens if a wolf spawns in a fenced in area? Then they cannot escape.

Maybe wolves could have toggle able modes? Like they could have a defense mode (standard performance) or an aggressive mode(attack everything)
Just an idea, a bad idea, but still an idea.
I have a similar idea involving difficulty.
i.e : Easy mode has all mobs save for creepers, Ghasts, and endermen, Normal mode has all mobs, hard mode has mobs with increased damage.
Tamed wolves do it too... I may have to put my one down. There'll be tears streaming down my face as I dig his grave, shove him into it, throw gravel on top of him and then cover over the hole...
If they're tamed, they shouldn't be a problem as they would only attack your livestock if you attack them first.

Perhaps on easy mode creepers, ghasts, and endermen wouldn't be able to affect blocks? But I'd prefer a completely different option for block damage.
Back to doing some further testing. I was exploring a forest biome, hit upon a river cutting through it, and walked over a small hill. On the other side, a wolf was chasing a sheep, but the sheep was running away. I didn’t have this in mind when I wrote the code to make mobs flee, but it ended up giving me an unexpected experience of having some kind of echo system of competing behaviors in various animals, and it just felt.. nice. It made me realize we should explore more mob to mob interactions, and have more chaotic competing behavior.
Is this what you are referring to?
It's kinda vague, but there none the less.
But I can't shake the feeling that he's saying that it'd be cool, but he's not really gonna do.

I'm sure a line or two of coding can prevent wolves from spawning in fenced in areas if the case need be.
