So, I was doing my science homework on plate tectonics, and I thought what earthquakes would be like in Minecraft. And they would be disastrous. Disastrously disastrous!
Faults! \
These faults would form on the edges of biomes (rarely,) and would extend across boundaries of other biomes. There is a very small chance that one of these faults would produce an earthquake, knocking all torches, signs, paintings and ladders off walls.
Floods!
Floods would occur if there was a recent earthquake nearby. Any water within range of the earthquake rises 1 water level suddenly, and descends back to normal over a period of 1 day.

I didn't even try with tornadoes. There's already a mod and it's ridiculous, plus I don't feel like building a tornado mold thing. Maybe it would occur at the edge of desert and arctic biomes?
Well the way a world generates, floods would be nearly impossible, because the land is simply too small, and the ocean has a set height. The faults idea is amazing, and I tried out the tornado mod, and well, DESTRUCTIVE AS ****.
You for got the volcanoes but you still deserve a .
I know volcanoes are VERY much related to plate tectonics and faults, etc., but I saw Jeb said that the 1.8 biome code would support volcanoes, so no need to add it to the suggestion. (Plus building a whole volcano? Ugh... :tongue.gif:)
As far as coding, I think it'd be pretty easy to take every water block at sea level or below and have it spawn a water block above it that flows out like a normal block. For cleanup purposes, these could be a separate block identity, so although they act like water you could just say "erase all FloodWater" and be done pretty quickly.
Also, a flood could correct those pesky currents that stick around when you picked up water in the wrong spot. I hate those things.
Hmm... it's possible that a flood could also make any flowing water at sea level or below into source blocks. Though there might be some need for judging what's a waterfall or you'd just have a huge mess. Perhaps any flowing water directly adjacent a source block becomes a source block itself, but not flowing water any farther away?
It'd be neat if it could flood through one-block-thick dirt or sand, too, because that'd be pretty realistic I think. Or it could erode some of the dirt and sand, perhaps, opening up your basement to the floodwaters.
Anyway, I think it could work. The thing is, like many other aspects of Minecraft, it would be much better as an optional mechanic. Just like I think Notch should let us turn off certain mobs at will or mess with the frequency, I think the hunger mechanic, any temperature management mechanic, certain weather types, and any sort of natural disasters ought to be things you could turn off completely, not tied to difficult level. And I'd like to be able to choose whether the natural disasters could break blocks, move blocks, leave blocks behind once they're gone, or do nothing to blocks at all. With a few easy sliders and/or checkboxes, it remains the game for everyone, even people who want to play on Hard but don't want their awesome houses messed up.

My nephews and I have started posting Minecraft videos on my YouTube channel! Fairly random, but enjoyable.
General schedule is 4 PM Mon-Fri and 10 AM Saturdays. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!

P.S. What's the texture pack?
thats why they are called natural disasters
The water would go away after a day.
Texture pack is PureDBcraft, 128x.
