Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but here I go!
I was pondering, as I tend to do, about the future of the Glass Block!
With the 1.8 update bringing panes of glass, won't the Glass Block feel useless or left out?
Not with Display Cases!™
The idea here is that you can craft a case out of, say, 8 Glass Blocks in a square with a hole in the middle.
You can plonk it down anywhere, looks just like a Glass Block, maybe a tad fancier... but it's actually a Display Case!
You'd be able to right click on the Display Case and pop in a cherished diamond tool or the like, and that item would be displayed inside the glass.
(Am I blowing your mind yet?)
On top of that, if you stack two cases on top of each other, it could extend like a chest and fit a full set of your favorite armor inside! :biggrin.gif:
Just imagine walking into your "Trophy room" and being able to see all your favorite items displayed around without having to dig them out of musty old chests!
I came to this idea thinking of being able to place armor down in the world, then use a "repair hammer" (and applicable resources) to repair said equipment.
But now I really want some display cases!
Thank you for reading!
Please let me know your thoughts!
I doubt Notch would care to do this, maybe a bored modder can give it a go :smile.gif:
It's a little too specialized. I'd rather have a component that could, among other things, be used in building a display case, but could also be used to make other things. In particular, I'd just like a tabletop or countertop, a thin, flat surface (about as thick as snow) that can be placed on top of or on the side of other blocks (as shelves). The tabletop block would be kind of like a chest, except it only holds a single item, which is visible on top as if it had been dropped there, except that it wouldn't despawn.
You could build a lot of different display cases with a component like this. A china cabinet behind twin wooden doors. A freestanding plinth with a single item displayed on top, surrounded by fencing.
Ooh, just thought of another use. You could build useable (if large) boards for chess!

Uh... this is the suggestions forum, not the Modding forum.
This idea is good, but I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned before.
