This is a suggestion / video / discussion, didn't know where to put this.
Well, I definitely think that Minecraft should have reflective water as a detail option. For those who enjoy detail, it would be a great feature. Mods do exist for it, such as this, which I quickly filmed for this:
I love the idea of this. As you can see, the mod lagged me out badly. But you get the idea - Something like that would greatly improve the realism of Minecraft, and would be a huge hit for those who have computers that can handle it.
unfortunately, chances are if notch add's a reflective water shader then its going to consume the exact same cpu usage that the mod takes... but it would be a nice graphics feature to have incorporated with the game
minecraft is bugged realy bad. although notch has shown an attempt to try and fix bugs minecraft has been truely slow since 1.5 and i can see that notch is primairiley focusing on new features. i hope that 1.8 is 85% bug fixes.
dont get me wrong i like new features i just think they should work on the little things
I would really like this feature if it remained optional. It would really improve the of water in Minecraft. It would probably destroy my frame rate though.
I think the main thing eating up the frame rate in that mod is the rippled water, not the reflections. Some simple reflections wouln't do that. I would actually like to see reflective surfaces in general (like glass), not just water.
The thing is, reflections aren't exactly simple. They require rendering the world in a reflected way, while changing it's appearance so that it looks different depending on the angle of viewing
The reason that the water shader mod was easier to make than a mirror, was because the image was blurred out, and most of the reflected objects were perpendicular to the water, meaning that they would stay the same shape depending on where you saw it.

Man i hate spaming but im new and have a great idea for mine craft i love your idea and i think it could be mixed with my idea to sum it down its castle vs castle in the middle a path and then your reflect water on the side of the paths it would be sooo epic :smile.gif:

The mod is here:
Don't comment that this needs to be moved. A mod can take care of that if they choose.
