The water is pretty boring. All you see down there is some lonely squids, sand, and dirt. I think instead of keeping our heads focused outside of the water, we get our scuba gear and jump in the cool blue.
If we were to expand the water frontier, we could possibly add some plantation, such as coral, or maybe some seaweed which could be used for building material and such. What with vines, seaweed could be the vines of water. Another neat idea would be if they added some moss to the near-land grass spots. This moss, once swam through, could blur vision. Water itself could do the same thing, but only leave some water spots on your screen. Wont be any problem, but will add a neat element. Another neat feature would be if there were clams. These clams, once killed, could drop 0-2 clam meat or something. They dont have a cooked variation, only raw. They would heal maybe 1-2 hearts. But theres also a 25% chance it would drop a diamond. There could be a pearl, but adding that would be too much trouble. They would only spawn in oceans, and at some mid-deep areas. That seems like enough I could come up with. Now to biomes and dungeons...
There wont be much biomes, but there would be some that add new elements in where you can difficult items that you cant usually find. One biome would be those in swampy land biomes. They would hold no mobs, lots of moss and vines, but many underground tunnels leading to dungeons underwater. How do underwater dungeons work? Similar to regular dungeons, but they have water everywhere. Lucky for you, there wont be any mobs. But getting to these dungeons would be very difficult because you have to swim through lots of water to get to em'! This makes breathing very difficult. Theres one more good element about this. The dungeons are also underground, but they arent just plain in ocean water. They would be maybe about 6-12 blocks under sea level. Meaning you can block up the area water falls in, and just dig down until you reach these dungeon tunnels. These dungeons tunnels, however, have water in them, all the way to the top. The chests will have the same effect, but have a neat new look. They cant be normally crafted. They can only be mined from water dungeons. They would have some moss over them with other water fungi. These water chests have slightly more rarer and important items in them aswell.
Back to the biomes topic...
2 more water biomes. One would be a biome where there are a series of water tunnels to travel through. Some of these tunnels lead to ponds or lakes on land, and even some underground dungeons. The last biome I thought of, to wrap up this whole topic. Its not really much ofa biome, but a neat feature. I know volcanoes havent been really thought of yet, but there would be some underwater volcanoes that, with lots of time, create mountains or island. Each layer of cobblestone that hardens from magma happens each day atleast. Maybe even longer in time. One it gets about 1-2 blocks above the water, it begins to automatically generate sand, and in time without corruption, it generates grass and plantation. I dont know about you, but that seems like an interesting process to watch.
