Including in redstone projects. Similar to sticky pistons, chain can lift and drop items, only chain can bring it an extended amount of blocks. (Up to 10) The only problem, chain can only have max height and max lowered settings, and there is no middle-setting. It would be difficult to work with redstone, and would be difficult to code.
You cannot work chain on it's own.
In order to lift or drop items properly you will need a "Pulley" block. The pulley block will be the one attached to redstone. When powered, the pully will reduce all of the chain, pulling the blocks attached to the chain with it, right up until there is only 1 block of chain left. When there is no power, the chain drops the same amount of blocks it was lifted.
Chain doesn't lift only one block,
but all of the similar blocks going directly below it for up to 6 blocks. This will be useful for things such as gates, and can widen the use of redstone.
Chain can also make chain-mail. By simply placing the chain in a crafting table the same way you would craft items such as an iron helmet, ect.
This would make elevators very simple! Although chains have been suggested a lot, I think you pulled it off really well! However, I had difficulty reading your post. Perhaps you can refine it to make it more understandable? I actually think you should use 5 iron bars in an X pattern instead of a full block for your pulley.

I re-read it, and I don't get what you don't get.
I also changed the recipe :smile.gif:
I said that in the OP :tongue.gif:
