I've looked at other campfire threads and they seem to use a lot of resources and want to last a long time and have multiple effects like keeping monsters at bay.
From the latest information i've seen on 1.8, raw meat will be stackable but not cooked meat. Sometimes you may not have a furnace close by or not have fuel. I was thinking of a 2x2 craftable what would drop a fire at your feet and cook one piece of meat for you.
This could give you a small fire with the meat roasting on a stick for a few seconds then drops cooked meat.
I figure it could work in that you just rub the sticks together to start the flame but I suppose it could be another good use for Flint & Steel. Placing a campfire and lighting it.
Anyway. Hope this isn't too redundent or has been posted elsewhere.
Well, i think it makes sense to carry a Flint & Steel and burn pigs when you need food. If you cant find pigs, you could find water and fish. But this is a cool idea.
A cool thing to pair up with this would be a tent :biggrin.gif:! It would function like a bed, but it would be completely safe even outside. Possibly would be quite expensive, like iron or diamond bolts.

That's a bit off topic. The campfire is just a quick way to cook meat from your stack of raw meat without having to build a whole furnace. That way you can just make it on the go.
Being invincibe while using a Tent seems unbalanced. Kinda pointless underground and overpowered on the surface
I have wanted to be able to make simple campfires for a long time. The furnace is a little too permanent looking, and I don't like having to have something to cook in order to keep it burning. Flint and steel makes a nice fire, but you can't cook on it.
As for tents, well, I have one. I carry a stack of wool and a pair of shears, along with a bed on expeditions. I build a simple hut out of wool blocks (it goes up pretty quick with practice). Then, in the morning, with the shears I tear it down even faster. Works beautifully. I even dyed mine orange so I could easily spot it while scouting an area.

Or, you can just carry around some cobble and a crafting bench/wooden planks/logs, or just carry around a furnace at all times. There you go. Portable ways to cook food and smelt items.

Taking trolling to a whole new level, one post at a time.

Uh huh, well sometimes you're unable or unwilling to go through that much trouble. This was just a suggestion to a very quick 2x2 recipe to make cooked meat.
If you've ended up in a situation where your inventory is stuffed, or where you don't have the supplies to make a furnace.
Personally I'd rather just quickly use 3 sticks to cook meat instead of crafting a worktable/ then a furnace and having to load it with food and fuel.
Yes it's a little redundant but we were cooking long before we made furnaces and it's a pretty non-invasive recipe. It's still more fuel effiecent to use a furnace (2 sticks instead of 3) and isn't a threat to smelting. Its just for when you're in the middle of a project or on the move and notice your hunger is low.

Saddle = Bed

This is suggestions, Dumbass.
If only I could aim.
I posted this in the 1.8 discussion section. It got moved almost immediately. That what they were referring too.
