Lava boats. That simple. Recipe design/layout is the same as usual, but the bottom 3 are made of iron or another material. Lava's much thicker than water, so it won't sink (forget that it slowly would, please). Perhaps a more detailed approach could involve a powered lava boat, yet current restrictions would mean you'd have to stand on the thing, which inhibits steering. Point is, think about how different it would be to float across the nether's lava pools.

Define "too easy", because boating across a sea of lava in a tiny minecart with giant, screaming jellyfish shooting fireballs at you isn't everyone's idea of a walk in the park.
Just saying, difficulty is very much a matter of opinion, and I'd much rather have the new frontiers that lava boating brings than forgo them to maintain some wildly-capricious and wholly-debatable standard of difficulty.
Notch have previously stated that he want minecarts to work as boats in lava.
The big problem with this is that the boating mechanics needs to be changed. Controlling a normal boat is pretty hard with the boat getting stuck and breaking when crashing.
And maybe the biggest issue, it's almost impossible to disembark the boat without getting your feet wet. In water this is not a big deal, but in lava it's a completely different matter.

People said that when you get off a regular boat, you sometimes fall off and land into the water.
The same thing could happen.

If only I could aim.
