I say this to Notch, the Mojang workers and all Minecraft fans!
I've been thinking about this new 1.8 update and how awesome it will be.
But the map generator will only affect areas where I haven't been (areas where chunks aren't loaded yet).
So what happens to the world I've been working my butt off for?
Many memories reside in my world. :sad.gif: But I'll have to start a new one to have the effects of the new map generator.
For example, my brother went and explored his whole map. (You know the one made with paper and a compass.)
What happens for him? He won't even get any 1.8 update stuff for 10 walk around his spawn point.
LOL. I know I say lol but I say this seriously. I want 1.8 update to affect areas closer to my spawn point.
Can you develop something that will let us choose which chunks to delete off our computer memory?
It won't do anything to your world. You can play on your own worlds and it they will be just fine. Don't listen to anyone that says they'll be incompatible.
Well, no. The entire map you've been working on will not be affected. If you want to move your creations over to a 1.8 world, use MCEdit and paste it into the map... that might work?
When Beta 1.8 comes out, like you said it will only effect parts of the map which have not been generated yet. Even so, the best thing to do is to start a new map completely. I say this because even if you travel far enough to the parts which have not been generated, the terrain features may look a bit funny due to the change in biome generation code. I think. I know that alot of people have a certain "bond" to their single player saves which is one bad things about new updates to terrain in minecraft.
I think the best thing to do is just to start a new map, and i'm sure you will make more great memories in it :smile.gif:
Psst. Copy your jar right now and save it. It's not legal to get a downgrade from the internet once 1.8 comes in. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR 1.7 JAR!
