I had an idea for a new class of switches. Unlike every other switch they wouldn't be capable of activated devices directly. Instead they would only be able to affect redstone dust, torches, and repeaters.
The idea is that you could have a switch next to a something like a piston or a door and not trigger that just because it's nearby. Instead you'd only activate what you purposefully connect the switch to with redstone.
I got the idea while trying to build a device that had pressure plates in the floor to sense the position of mobs but also had pistons everywhere in order to move them around. If I could do something like have a pressure plate next to a piston and not make the piston go off just because that pressure plate is pressed it would be pretty useful. No doubt these "wire activating only" buttons and levers would also prove handy for many devices. Especially compact ones where you want to put controls next to machines they aren't supposed to affect.
I like it. I was thinking of making a devise that will only open a door when you press the button in front of it if I have it unlocked which I would use a switch on the other side of the door. But it wouldn't be compact enough for the devise how I would need to do it.
