According to the PAX whatever it is, Endermen are damaged by touching water and leave behind smoke particles as they move. This led me to believe that they came from the Nether, when they were similar to fire elementals. This suggestion aims to bridge this gap.
Where other humans or whatever would be building settlements in the overworld, Flamekin would build settlements in the Nether, using cobblestone for foundations, smoothstone for walls and netherrack (usually on fire) for roofs. Unlike the moody/scary demeanor of Endermen, Flamekin would carry a happier disposition. Being born of fire, they can heal themselves by taking a dip in lava. However, not all is at peace. They constantly fight tribes of Zombie pigmen, who also build settlements. Simply put, this suggestion turns the Nether into a war zone.
As both Flamekin and Zombie pigmen are neutral to you, it is possible to choose sides. You have the freedom to decide to attack one tribe or the other. You can also get rewards from attacking villages. As an example, when you defeat a Zombie pigman, the next time a Flamekin spots you, it will come up and hand you a reward. Flamekin give ores, while Zombie pigmen give tools and food. The rewards go as follows:
Defeat an enemy: Random fruit or bread/coal Steal from a chest and give it's contents to the other tribe: Random gold tool/gold or iron ore Destroy a building: Cake or golden apple/10 units of redstone Stop a siege: Random Iron tool/1 Diamond Completely destroy a village and defeat all remaining villagers: 1 Companion from other tribe
Did I mention sieges and companions? Sieges happen when multiple settlements of one faction decide to attack one settlement of the other, letting you know by howls or cries in the distance. Most of the time, the defending village loses and is destroyed. You can pitch in and help defend the settlement at your own discretion. When you successfully defend the village and all attacking troops are dead, you get the reward shown above.
It's a different story for attacking villages. You can choose to solo it or attack with a raiding party. Once the village is destroyed, you get a companion from the attacking faction. to make it easier on development, companions will use the Tamed Wolf code: you can order them to stay and follow, and will attack whatever you attack (except Creepers).

What do the Flamekin drop ? Also, what do they look like? What seperates and borders villages? How can you tell which village is which? Are they social (wolves, pigmen ect.)?
1: I'm not sure what flamekin would drop, maybe coal?
2: I kind of picture them looking like this, except blockier:
3: If borders in the overworld NPC villages are implemented, as shown in the texture pack, then they will use them as well
4: Glowstone roofs and stone walls for Flamekin, and Netherrack roofs and soul sand walls for Zombie pigmen
5: Yes, they are
That would be cool. Although, I don't quite know about the whole choosing sides thing. It seems fun, but kinda complicated for this game. Maybe if there was another button in the More Options menu called "Nether War: On/Off" or something. Also, maybe it would be better for Flamekin to have Nether Brick walls, and not stone.
