I was looking at some of the pirate ships players had created in SSP, but mainly SMP, and figured that they were purely awesome in every way, except for the one, obvious thing: They couldn't actually sail. So my idea is for a few things: 1. A way to expand a boat into a ship. 2. A ship could hold multiple people who could just stand on it and move with it. 3. A 'captain's wheel' of sorts, which would allow you to steer and take control of the whole boat by right clicking it. With this, people could make cruise liners or things of that nature, or maybe something like a boat tour of a server. I realize this would be the first customizable vehicle, so I want to hear what everyone thinks.
EDIT: I know this may be a rather common idea, but don't leave comments like "Ur retarded so many people have already asked for this"
What I think: I just came to the forum to suggest the same thing :tongue.gif:
The best way to do this would be, instead of craftable ships, the possibility to craft engines of diverse powers and (possibly) something separate to steer. Or sails, out of wool/string/both. Then just attach those to the ship you've built out of whatever you've built it out of, that would make my day.
Good idea, I was wondering how the ships could be defined as a vehicle that could move at all and not just sit there, and an engine/sails would be a great way to do that.
You know, this is a great Idea, and I personally think it would fit in GREAT with the 1.8 Update Biomes, and Streams/Rivers. Though, you might want to get a bit more creative and elaborate, go into more detail on how to craft it, Player Capacity, Weight Capacity, Ship Wrecks, Broken Wood Pieces(That would require SEVERAL Buckets to drain water), Sinking, Size, Construction, Color, Designs, etc. The more detailed thread, the better, and the more support, the better, and maybe, just maybe, Notch will add it into MC.
On the note of diverse power engines, maybe it would almost be like a new tool- wood engines, iron engines, DIAMOND engines.... Rarer materials being faster than regular.

This could possibly be done, that is a very nice idea.
Alright, I'll think of some ideas for this... I might have to go soon but still. What about every item/item type being assigned a "weight value"... Cobblestone being at 8, smooth stone being at 9, Iron being at 9, obsidian being at 10, and every engine would have a diverse maximum weight.
Then of course lighter materials being, well, lighter. Wool at like 1, woodplanks at 1, logs at 2-3, etc.
If we do this, the problem of being slower would arise, and people would not like that. There might be a way around it, to still make an effect on weight for when your on the boat, I just need to think of a different way of it. Adding weight to items sounds pretty awesome, but in the longrun, they would surely make it effect your player speed.
I'm back now :tongue.gif: . But I like the idea of ships with multiple, and possibly more useful purpouses. Some could be for cargo, others transit, and some even IDK, farming. Maybe different engines could be made for different purpouses, cargo engines greatly reducing the weight value of chests, passenger ships lowering the weight of people. And what does everyone think about one ship being able to have more than one engine to increase weight limit and such.
