We should be given the opportunity to craft mailboxes in which we may place at our homes, this would benefit multiplayer greatly. Giving players the chance to send paper messages to other players simply by typing a message as you would with signs on a crafted piece of paper, and then right clicking on a player mailbox, and they will receive a notification upon arrival, the player would then have to manually click their mailbox to gather messages, or by any other creative methods .
Uses:
Sending lengthy messages to offline & online players Giving the chance to privately message players creatively Making your homes feel more like homes with a mailbox :laugh.gif:
Crafting Recipe Ideas:
Okay, so 3 sugarcane make 3 paper, we can use 3 paper and an ink sac to make a paper message, you can then type what ever you wish by right clicking a mailbox with it, and it will be put inside that mailbox. Messages would be client side, making it so only the receiver can view the contents of the mailbox.
A Mailbox could be crafted with 2 iron ingots, 2 sticks, and 1 wood plank, in the shape of a 'T', then you would receive a nice iron mailbox, with a wooden post.
My personal reason for this idea:
Many times when working on a project with a buddy on a SMP server, after my he logs out to sleep, I'm still on changing rooms, or moving blocks, and items. I never get to tell my friend what progress I've done until he logs back in at the same time I'm on. With this mail system, I could simply type a message or two on a paper, and send them to his mailbox, that he will be notified upon logging in, that he has a message from another player. There should be no reason why there isn't a creatively made system like this already, and would surely benefit SMP alot.
'Hey I'm logging out, just put the message in the mailbox, I'll read it tomorrow.'
I'd like to be able to write on paper, but that's all we need. If you want to set up a mail system, there are plenty of ways to do it in-game already. Simplest is just to go drop the danged piece of paper in a chest somewhere your friend knows to check.
But then there's also minecarts with chests. Why not build a redstone-mediated switching system to allow you to send carts with letters in them (and perhaps other items) to a destination? Imagine logging into the game and finding a cart waiting for you. Oh golly! I have mail! And here's the shipment of glowstone I ordered!
