Ocean overhaul
i saw many problems with the oceans in minecraft (mainly their size) and though i'd do the other half of the game a favor and suggest some ideas for improvement.
new flora and fauna
1. sharks
simple melee attacker, kills other fish on sight. doesn't swim out of deep water at all.
2. squid remake
Squids now drop squid meat, along with their ink sacs. They become hostile in deep water and attack when struck outside it. Their attack is a simple tackle, grappling them and doing constant damage, all the while dragging them underwater to kill them faster via drowning. hunts (follows) regular fishes when in deep water, attacks sharks if they wander too close.
3. regular fish
regular fish, passive, low health, spawn in all types of water (i'll get to that later) when killed they give you the same fish you get from fishing.
4. phosphorescent fish
These fish glow brightly, repelling sharks and squids. they are passive and drop glowstone dust. deep water only
5. whale
Whales are slow, passive, huge (size of two big slimes next to each other) and have a ludicrous amount of health. when killed they drop dozens of whale meat items, and blubber/oil which could be used in a furnace/lantern.
6. corral (small)
Acting as underwater shrubs, spawns small fish. spawns/spreads in salt water and deep water.
7. corral (big)
Act as trees, creating branches (w/o primary trunk) faint glow (same as redstone torch) corral can be removed with an axe, and gives a coral block, much like a log.
New water types:
1 fresh water
in lakes and rivers, can be drunk via cups (up-side-down pants formation, idk on material), no longer reduces light that passes through it by more than what a empty block would. everything else the same as the current block
2 salt water
in oceans (which would make their own biome) greener than fresh water, when put in a bucket it can be boiled in a furnace to make fresh water. You float in salt water, and do not need to swim to stay above it. That being said you need to work harder to dive in salt water. does not reduce light that goes through it
3. Deep water
any saltwater block with more than 20 other saltwater blocks above it will be converted into a deep water block. These blocks slowly do damage to players and land animals due to water pressure. if picked up with a bucket becomes saltwater once more. Reduces the light level of anything passing through it the same way the water currently in use does. has a very large downward pull, slightly higher than that of a downward flow block (but you can still swim up, just takes longer)
There are also several items i'd like to see added
1. diving suit
a when the helmet is equipped you cannot drown, while the body is equipped you take 50% less damage from deep water blocks. 40% less damage from deep water with the pants, 10% less damage from deep water with boots (with the full set you are immune to the damages deep water entirely, and can breathe underwater.
2 Corral
as i mentioned, corral would grow like a tree without the trunk (branches sprouting from a central peice. you can plant your own by getting seeds from small corals (these should drop plenty as they are the only source) big coral only grows in deep water. The seeds make a different version of the small coral, which then grown into a tree. The small coral spreads by itself or via bonemeal.
3 spear gun
a sea version of the bow, same range as teh land bow (as i imagine a the bow eventually will be fixed and not fire through water unaffected). Slower firing, more damage (good for hitting big things like whales)
4 spear
sea version of the arrow, only made of metal and unbreakable
Some of the things i mentioned would be very difficult (glowing entity, squid grappling, non solid blocks that still count as water etc.) but eventually i imagine they could be done. If anyone reads this far, i hope that you to give me some feedback and possibly some of your own ideas that I never though of.

But unless oceans get bigger (which you are suggesting), having deep water is pointless.
Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
I like the squid upgrade :biggrin.gif:
