Special arrows: basically arrows where flint is replaced by a different item in the crafting grid to give the arrow a new effect, such as coal making fire arrows or snowballs making ice arrows to set things on fire and freeze them, respectively. I'm mainly including this in the suggestion because of the issues of selecting which arrow to fire inside the quiver in case that special arrows were ever added. For examples of possible arrows see the 303's Arrows mod; I'm not going to come up with more arrows right now because I'm focusing on what the quiver would do. In addition to unusual arrows it would also be possible to use iron, diamond, obsidian, etc to make stronger arrows that do more damage and knockback but have lower range due to being heavy.
Another possibility would be to be able to craft iron, obsidian, etc into multiple shards which, when used as arrow heads, would each produce four arrows.
Yet another possible addition or alternative to special types of arrows would be to make stronger bows out of iron and other materials, which would take longer to pull back all the way but would have increased range.
Quiver:
The quiver would frequently be in dungeons, be dropped occasionally by skeletons, and/or would be craftable with a chest and leather like this:
(NOTE: THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE AND WOULD NOT BE FINAL.)
The quiver would be able to store up to five stacks of arrows (possibly more if special arrows are added, or with a harder to make quiver). These could be placed in the quiver by right-clicking with it in your hand to open a GUI. If specialty arrows existed, it would also be possible to select a stack to be fired, and if these ran out the quiver would switch to the first stack of arrows in it. When it was in use, the quiver would have to be worn instead of the chestplate, and as long as there were arrows in it any in the inventory would not be fired. Quivers would not take damage or provide armor protection.
If quivers were craftable, arrows would only stack up to 16 in the inventory, and to stack fully would have to be in the quiver.
Bow balancing:
*There should be a limit to how fast arrows can be fired, preferably 1/sec.
*While drawing a bow the player can only sneak.
*A new armor spot for quivers, capes, etc could be created so that players don't lose armor protection.
"If quivers were craftable, arrows would only stack up to 16 in the inventory, and to stack fully would have to be in the quiver"
"the quiver would have to be worn instead of the chestplate"
"There should be a limit to how fast arrows can be fired, preferably 1/sec."
those are the only parts I disagree with, the rest is a good idea. :cool.gif:
I like the idea of new arrow types, but not "special effect" arrows, perhaps with the exception of fire (coal at the tip of an arrow COULD be burning as you launch it, but an ice arrow? come on). Iron, gold, etc. arrows would be a waste of metal. Bows should be able to be made out of iron, diamonds, etc. to make them stronger.

First off, after watching that other thread get closed for being a repost, you decide to make another quiver idea? You're a brave one to test the mods like that, but I won't report because it looks like you tried to combine all the threads into one.

I dislike any kind of fire arrows or ******** like that. I think with the charging of the bow in 1.8 there should be 2 arrow types. Flint and Obsidian. Flint and Obsidian are both almost completely useless except for a few key uses in Minecraft, are pains in the ass to acquire, and have recorded history of actually being used for arrows in real life. That seems like all we need. Obsidian arrows would do twice as much as a regular arrow.
Also, the quiver should be crafted with only leather like so:
= Leather
Beyond that, I'm basically fine with everything else you said, but would reduce the Quiver size to 3 stacks.

Well at least the bow balancing will be in 1.8, i like how being an archer would force you to sacrifice armor.
Aside from adjustable power bows, I'm pretty sure that there isn't anything in 1.8 affecting archery. Remember, what experience will be spent on is undetermined.
"If quivers were craftable, arrows would only stack up to 16 in the inventory, and to stack fully would have to be in the quiver" If quivers were craftable, it would be incredibly easy to make them, so it would give you more space for arrows anyway. Arrows stacking less would just be a reason for people to start using quivers.
"the quiver would have to be worn instead of the chestplate" See the bit about additional spaces to wear accessories in.
"There should be a limit to how fast arrows can be fired, preferably 1/sec." When a mob has been hit by an arrow, it becomes invulnerable for about a second, and further arrows bounce off and are wasted, so this would merely prevent arrow losses. In addition, this would make bows more realistic.
those are the only parts I disagree with, the rest is a good idea. :cool.gif:
The recipe shouldn't need an arrow. Good idea, though. I hardly see the use for 'special' arrows.
The diagram was from an old thread discussing possible quiver recipes, so it was just an example of one possibility. As for special arrows, you could increase damage dealt, set things on fire to do more damage, temporarily prevent mobs from moving or attacking you, light high up areas (torch arrows), or, for example, if rope was introduced, you could shoot an arrow with rope to climb up or down vertical parts of caves without getting fall damage.
Special arrows would be quite useful, and just because not everything is 100% realistic doesn't mean it wouldn't be cool (I mean, the Nether? Creepers? Infinite water?). Iron is actually very common, and just because you think that it would be a waste doesn't mean it wouldn't be useful. Also, on the topic of realism, iron or diamond bows would be less flexible and would not bend enough to be stronger.

The issue there was that the same person had apparently posted a similar thread the previous day. This isn't a repost as it has a ton of new ideas, some from old threads (which, I'd like to point out, are all at least four months old) and others that I just came up with.

Most of the special arrows-type things were, in case they were implemented, to solve problems with which would be fired.

As I've clarified, the image was only a possibility.
Beyond that, I'm basically fine with everything else you said, but would reduce the Quiver size to 3 stacks. Quiver size would mainly depend on whether or not there were special arrows.

Look I'm up for new arrows but quivers were deleted for a reason. They were terminated because you can add up to 3 rows of 64 arrows in your inventory.

i can see gold and diamonds a waste on arrows because they are so rare, but if you would look in history around the medieval days they tipped arrows with something called an iron arrowhead. the bow part would make the bow stronger only because it would increase the draw strength.

Yes, but you can't have that many arrows without not being able to carry anything else. Plus, this would be for the adventure update, as it would improve the adventuring experience to give bows more feel than 'hold right mouse button, release, repeat'. Also, if bows were given more types of arrows, not even ones like fire or ice arrows, but just iron-tipped ones that did twice the damage (which would also improve the experience of using bows a lot) a quiver would solve problems with which type of arrow would be fired.

Making stronger bows that would do more damage would unbalance arrows. Normal arrows are easy to get, but it shouldn't be possible to increase the damage that every single arrow does just by using three iron ingots or whatever to make a bow that will work forever. One thing stronger bows could do would be to increase range, so I've added that to the suggestion.
