Hello minecrafters,
Notch will be implementing Sprinting in 1.8. So I have come up with a way to allow you to boost your speed. Its by combining sugar and a bucket of water to make a bucket of soft drink. It can be used 3 times for each bucket. Everytime you drink the Soft drink you are able to sprint for 2 minutes and you are able to break blocks 2x faster for 2 minutes.
However this is a downside to this boost.
After the 2 minutes are up you become slower for 1 minute. You will not be able to sprint for a minute and you will break blocks 1/2 the speed.
Remember these are ideas and feel free to post any ideas here

Slower for a minute? Too long! Make it half of a minute!
Considering it makes you faster, maybe an energy/sport drink or one with a lot of sugar like Mountain Dew, Monster,etc? Ones with a lot of sugar make you have more energy but then slow you down later.

Its an Okay idea but not the best. You see Notch himself said this was a Mideval based game, and in my records they didn't have soft drinks back in the old days. The closest thing to a soft drink would be beer in MineCraft.
