Hello minecrafters,
I would like to put forward a new idea for an ore. The ore is Graphite. I have thought this out and it would make a great
addition to minecraft.
It is commonly found on layers 32- 36 and has the same rarity as gold.
It must be mined by an Iron or better pickaxe.
Drops 2-5 Graphite Powder (used for many things)
Also it will be possible to make a Pencil and write in books. To make the Pencil, put 1 stick in middle of crafting table
and then put a red wool on top and graphite powder underneath. Once you have a pencil, right click(With a book) on the ground or anywhere to write.
If you put 9 graphite powder in he crafting grid it makes a graphite block. If you heat the graphite block in a furnace, it becomes a carbon block. If you throw the Carbon block in water it becomes a diamond!
That is all the ideas I have thought of...
If you have any ideas please post it, because if notch sees this and adds it you will be credited.
Thanks for reading :smile.gif:
Also graphite can be used just as redstone wire. Since, in real life, graphite is an excellent conductor it can be used just as redstone would be.
Well, it sounds pretty rare so I don't think many people would use it as redstone unless it could do amazing things redstone can't like go up to 32-48 block without being re-charged or something.

Graphite as I know of is comonly used in making "Power Knobs" or whatever there name is, but maybe you could make a power knob to control how much redstone power is being put through, would be usful for something...

It could possibly be able to go vertically up walls and travel 30 blocks(2x as far as redstone) without recharging.
Awesome! Although this would possibly make it a bit too easy to get diamonds. But apart from that, it's an excellent idea.
Gold has a rarity of 0.13% up to level 32.
Diamond has a rarity of 0.12% up to level 18.
Graphite, at a rarity of 0.13%, is not going to make diamond easier to get.
Here is a "labor" equation: Rarity * # = labor
Where Rarity is the % of blocks in which the ore occurs and # is the number needed to produce the result.
Here we see that one diamond, with a rarity of 0.12% and a material of 1 diamond (for 1 diamond, duh :-P ) has a labor of 0.12.
Alternatively a graphite produced diamond has a labor = 0.13 * 9 = 1.17.
1.17 is a much higher labor cost than simply finding diamond, and this is without taking into account further modifiers for time and other materials needed to produce the graphite diamond over the natural diamond.

Just a thought, though.
