I have come up with an idea I got from a close friend for Minecraft. Don't you just hate it when your mining obsidian mindlessly then you get distracted and move your cursor off the block. Then the block somehow "magically" repairs itself from the damage it took. Now, a lot about Minecraft isn't realistic(i.e monsters, sign holding up water) but I think that the block breaking is just ridiculous. I believe that you should be able to mine the block some, it stays cracked/damaged, then you can come back later, and finish the job. It would also make block mining more efficent since it will prevent those mistakes you make will mining, such as taking the cursor off the block for just one millisecond. So, is this a good idea? I find it quite realistic and it makes Minecraft a whole deal less frustrating.

I have decided as of late to be the reputation giver and the befriender. If you see that I gave you reputation and added you as a friend, you will know why. Everyone's my friend
Do not agree. What if I accidently hit my glass block on a window? now its not a big deal to replace the cracked glass, but then again we have to go get the sand and cook it up - more of an inconvenience. maybe a toggleable switch for realism? otherwise, no.
-Punching animals
-Accidentally hit your house
-Have to replace the block because it looks funny now
-Accidentally hit another block while doing so
-Repeat steps 2-4
-Punch diamond until it's one punch away from being mined
-Come back with an iron pick
-SUPER SPEED MINING

If you can't count up to 2,047 on your fingers, you're an idiot.

The way you have it, yes.
Just make the damage only last for about 5-10 seconds.
That way, its not so much of a pain in the @$$, but not making an accidentally punched structure look funny.
