With all the new combat feature coming in 1.8, like crits and blocking, etc. I thought I'd add in my little combat ideas that would really make combat in Minecraft
A lot of fun.
The hammer-
A hammer is a tool that also functions like a weapon, much like an axe, only the hammer is combat first, tool second.
Its secondary function would be to break through rock, and give cobblestone when broken, and the pickae would now give smoothstone.
(That's AS'ed, but bear with me)
In combat, a hammer would do very high damage, moreso than a sword, but break very easily, it would take double damage when used as a weapon (Despite combat being its primary function)
It's a powerful weapon, but not nearly as strong as the...
Warhammer-
Should the spike block be included in the 1.8 update, this would be a great use of it.
The warhammmer is crafted with one spik block over a hammer of any material, so long as the hammer is at FULL durability.
It is even more powerful than the hammer, but at a cost, you attack very slowly with the warhammer, you move more slowly with a warhammer, and when you have the warhammer equipped
(In your hotbar, not just the hand, if it's buried in your bag you're fine) You will be taken down very easily with a...
Sneak attack-
A sneak attack is exactly that, an attack while sneaking. if you go into sneak (holding shift) and get behind a monster, animal, or player, you can do double weapon damage,
however, this only works with slashing and stabbing weapons (Sword, Axe, Pickaxe) and gives a temporary stun (If that's added), the effect of the sneak attack is lowered by armor,
unless the warhammer is equipped. The sneak attack cannot be blocked. (blocking is most likely coming in 1.8) I don't have a nice segway for this next one, but...
Arrows-
Arrows are already in minecraft, I know, but with bows getting an overhaul, I think this feature would work quite nicely.
Some of you may already know that when you shoot an arrow in 1.8, it will stick in the monster/animal/player. It's not confirmed if this does anything, but if it does, i'd like it to be one the these two, if not both.
Stuck arrows give light DoT, half a hear every few seconds? maybe that's a little OP, I don't know. The effect would stack with each arrow in the monster/animal/player.
Or, alternatively, stuck arrows slow down the monster/animal/player by 5% each time, this effect would stack as well, so with 20 arrows in some monster's chest, they would be completely immobile.
I am not sure the sneak attack would work because mobs sense you 16 blocks away, even if you are behind them. Also I don't think it should be changed so that the pick drops smooth stone because the reason it drops cobblestone is because is is cracking the block up and breaking it to bits. So it staying smooth after being smashed with a pick doesn't make much sense in my opinion.. :wink.gif:
...Eh. Im sorta leaning on the no side of this. It's late (or early, depending on how you look at it) though so im probably not really thinking clearly. By later today ill give you a solid answer.
Also about the arrows, they already stick in mobs because when you kill mobs with arrows you don't get them back, unless you missed the shot. Also the slowing down doesn't seem necessary because you already kill most hostile mobs in 5 hits.

Not sure if you're understanding, here's a picture of arrows sticking into a zombie, he's over on the left side.

i see... I also noticed that endermen (farlanders?) are a dark grey, with black designs on it.
And that it looks like he's in a village.
