Copper is found less then coal, but more then iron. You can mine it with a wood pick and higher. When you mine it, it gives you 1 copper ore. Copper tools are better then stone, but worse then iron. With it you can mine stone, iron, coal, lapiz and gold.
But here's the twist
Copper can act as redstone, yes you heard me, redstone, but there are some differences. Copper wire can transfer a current 5 blocks. You can make copper torches and copper repeaters, the difference being copper repeaters have only 1 and 2 tick settings. To make a copper repeater its the same as a redstone repeater but you use copper wire and copper torches, but instead of stone you use cobble. To get copper wire you craft copper ore into 3 copper wire.
Another use
Copper can act as a fireproof block, to make a copper block it is a 2x2 of copper ore. A copper block will absorb all of the fire within 4 blocks, it will slowly degrade which is shown by a custom degrading (similar to what is displayed when you mine blocks). Once it receives about 10 fire. When you destroy a copper block you get 1-2 copper ore. This will prevent recycling of copper blocks for more fire resistance.
Possible ideas
Making copper the only thing that can mine redstone (Yikeymike)
So what do you think! Please give me ideas and improvements!

You mean less then coal, but more then iron?
I don't get it anyway. seems like all around its not as good as redstone. and I can mine stacks and stacks of redstone, so i don't know why i would need copper...
It needs to have one feature that is better then what is already available, or else it would never get used.
Hmm, I kind of like this. The poor mans redstone will enable you to build simple redstone machines before you get a deep enough mine to find redstone. I'm not really sure if this is worth adding a brand new feature, but this suggestion would suit players that are mainly building. The creative players would then not have a reason to go too deep underground unless they need gold or diamond.
